I have been using a netgear wifi system in my home for the last nearly one month with little difficulty. Recently it was decided to encrypt the network. For whatever reason my PSP has been unable to connect to the wifi when before it had no difficulty. the only thing that has changed is the addition of a wep. It hangs on acquiring of the IP Address. Have used the wep that works on my desktop without any success. hoping for any assistance.

Just wondering how far are you from the router when you're trying to connect? I also have wep and I find my psp has trouble connecting unless I'm pretty close to the router (around 10 feet give or take a bit). On open connections without encryption the psp works fine though.

you sure you typed it in right? A lot of people have a similar problem because it is normally very long and hard to type on the psp.

I tried it within 6ft of the router and 10ft where I would normally use it neither of them are working. both hanging at IP address acquisition

This happened to mine but I didn't mess around with the router. It was workin then couldn't find the ip even though my bros psp was fine. I ended up getting a new one. Have you checked signal strength and perpahs taking back to factory setting?

If it's hanging on the IP acquisition then high chance you're either not close enough, or it isn't good enough for the PSP. I suggest either reset it to factory settings, and then try reconnecting; or use a WPA2 encryption over WEP. WPA2 is better than WEP, and it works on my PSP.

Worse comes to worse type everything in by hand. I had trouble with my DS (before I sold it) Also your security settings may be blocking it

It has been suggested before on previous threads that typing in an incorrect WEP key on the psp will cause the psp to time out when attempting to acquire an IP address. So double check that. Otherwise, it could be a problem with the router itself. Many routers tend to be unreliable. If you have several networking devices using your router, and the router has been running for an extended period of time, the router may just be suffering from a glitch preventing it from assigning your psp an IP address. You could try unplugging your router, waiting 30 seconds, then replugging, and retrying, to resolve this problem. Otherwise, you should also take Ghosty1212's suggestion to use WPA2 instead of WEP. It is an easier encryption scheme to use, and it is more secure. If your router does not support WPA2, check the manufacturer's website for a firmware update.
