How much of a difference is it if you use wired connection over WiFi. Will there be less lag in your online games? I ask this because I played Madden 08 last night and the online was so bad that I thought I was using dial-up. I am currently using the WiFi but never have any problems with any of my other games I play online. I have a strong connection which is always a full 100% in signal strength. Can anyone provide some insight? Thanks.

A wired connection is always better than wireless. Only thing is it is not A LOT better. Maybe something like 1% better or some other unnoticeable amount. I use wireless for my PS3 and 360 and it works great. You probably had something else going on.

So it must be the game itself. My connection is 100% most of the time.

not going to make much of a difference. your bottleneck is going to be your actual internet connection is almost all instances. i use wireless for my PS3 and wired for "other" system and both work great.

that won't matter either. the max length for ethernet (Cat-5) cable is roughly 360 feet. once you get close to that, you'll start to notice some drops.

depending on what letter wireless you're using, but i'll guess twice as much bps using wired over wireless. But are you downloading stuff on your computer or anything else on the same router? if they suck up bandwidth (or last night specifically) then theres your problem

I've only noticed two differences switching from ethernet to wi-fi. One is download times. Large continuous streams of data do get a little slower over wi-fi (or that's the way it seems to me), but there's no difference as far as smaller packets constantly going back and forth (like in gaming). I've never noticed any lag either way, except when the weather is really bad, because we have really old utility lines in my neighborhood and the cable gets wonky when it rains. And the other difference is I no longer trip over the ethernet cord that used to run accross the middle of the floor (router is in another room from PS3).

wired > wireless imo

I get disconnected very often with wireless and I don't even know why. If the router were closer I would've used wired. I just feel that wired is a lot more stable and a bit faster.

Assuming you have other computers and such on the network. Was anyone doing something on one of these computers? Bit torrent or downloading of large files will kill your internet connection for gaming.

I usually shut off my computer in the other room when doing online console gaming. My PC could be doing the auto download of Windows updates, or some other crazy thing. I just shut it off.

If my cable modem wasn't downstairs I'd use a wired connection, but since it is, I use Wi-fi. So far, I've run into no problems with my Wi-fi, maybe it's because I have a good connection. At school I also use a Wi-fi connection and have yet to run into any problems. I'm actually pretty impressed with the PS3 and its wireless connection to be honest.
