I think the OP is asking about the life of a battery that is constantly recharged.

By pure nature, a rechargable battery only lasts so long. Everytime they are charged they lose a bit of their chargng power, meaning a new battery will hold 100% charge while an older battery, will say it is 100% charged but may only have 85% power.

It is good for rechargable batteries to fully die before recharging them. So at least once a month, play your psp until the battery completely dies, then recharge it. The psp's battery charger is set with a chip that lets the charger know it is full, so it stops charging. If you have a realy crappy charger (the ones on ebay for .99) then it most likely does not have the chip that signals the charger to stop charging.

I have seen this happen many times to friends cell phones, where they lost the charger and bought a crappy ebay one.

Problems with "battery memory' are not as bad as they used to be. Most people say it is good to fully discharge a battery and then recharge it a few times when you get the device (to break in the battery) and then continue to do so every month or two (so as someone above said, play it until it shuts off every now and then then fully charge it). Long story short, it is a lot harder to mess up a battery now a days then it used to be, so you should be fine.

The PSP will evolve to its battle form! Just kidding, yeah it's not hazardous in general. There was one case I heard about where the charged failed to shut off and melted the battery, but something like that would be EXTREMELY rare.
