Now that Paramount has ditched Blu ray,is anyone else worried that maybe games developers will also do the same+develop more for the other consoles?Only I'm worried that present PS3 titles are thin on the ground+there doesn't seem to be a lot on the horizon.

I would be more concerned if my console ran the other form of media. BluRay is here to stay.

bluray has only been a gift for devs. its simply a better format. they no longer need to make compression programs to deal with space issues. i doubt any dev would drop ps3 support because of bluray.

even if blu ray loses... there is no reason to have game developers go back to DVD. blu ray disks can just be produced at a smaller scale and distributed to publishers for game production.

if sony lets the porn industry use blu-ray, then thats it blu-ray wins. porn is one of the main reasons why VHS won, streaming video over the internet became so standardized, and why dvd picked up so fast (ppl like to say it was the matrix, but mainly it was porn).

Games arnt getting any smaller. Thus, BluRay will be safe. It just needs time, much like the PS3.

retail distribution was the primary way to get pornography at that time. the internet takes out any real say that the porn industry would have on the format war.

Absynthetic

Well 360 has an add-on. Anway, the creators of HD DVD have already said their format would only do movies. Their downfall I guess, Bluray supports movies, games, and music! Sony Future proofed the PS3, Bluray is the future just like DVD's were. HD-DVD is like a step back into the VHS age when it only allowed us to watch only movies. Bluray disc's are what Developers have been dreaming about for years, so much space that they don't know what to do with it !

The PlayStation 3 was only released on Nov. 11, 2006 it hasn't even been one year yet and you're already thinking about this. To be honest I don't think so even if they lose the format battle they will continue to make games on Blu-Ray Discs.

..... it would happend only if no one wants to buy HDTVs anymore, but it wont happend. just look around everybody's getting an HDTV, and the blu-ray is a great disc for the HD movies..... and of course games. okay, know what? nevermind about HD movies. Sony will continue to make games on the blu-ray disc anyway, it sure better than the old DVD, and sure better than the old game cartridges - make sense?

Most developers don't even use the high memory capacity of the blu-ray discs. The more time they put into a game, the more it costs them. They rather develope a game that will work for both the PS3 and 360. I'd like to see a game use the potential but I doubt it will happen much. Sony said it themselves they like the ability to use the memory on blu-ray to put all the region formats on one disc and save money. Not to use it to make more depth filled games.

NY times reported that Microsoft funded Paramount for the HD dvd deal. lol pathetic

Thats a silly question BTW. no there not! Why would they abandon Blue ray its still the better format anyways and alot of people in the movie industry are pissed at paramount including Michael bay who directed Tranformers. Its actually Paramounts loss in the long run

I can't believe there hasn't been an outlash of flaming. HD has 2 of the major 6, Paramount and Universal stung but by how much really? Especially when Fox come out with a devasting amount of releases this year! Steven Speilberg has already announced his choice is BD and his movies will find their home there. Michael Bayhas said he won't do Transformers 2 because of Paramount wanting to support HD. Asif being outsold 2 to 1 isn't bad enough, it only delays what is sure to come. Blu Ray's flexibility really shines on the PS3 because of games and movies. Its not going anywhere. 360 was the same way its first year as was the PS2.

Nope, because 7th gen games will require more and more disc space as time progresses. Eventually, X360 games will be on 2 discs, while the PS3 will just have one.

Yep, I agree. Look at PC games... they had multiple CD's in the early years and when certain game companies started throwing out huge DVD games, others followed and became the trend. Developers require more space for creativity and to cut costs on other region coded games (all in one region game). It makes sense and that's why some developers prefer the PS3 and it's Bluray!

even if blue ray movies fail i see no reason for them to abandon it for games. i don't see what the fuss is all about cause honestly if blue ray fails with films it will eventually be the standard for games since it has no competition.

LOL. I think that Paramount are tres stupide in abandoning BluRay, they did get paid 150 million dollars to do that, but still, they'd probably make just as much if not more from those people who want to watch ****formers in High Definition. Their loss.

PS: Is anybody really bothered about watching Shrek in HD? It's a CGI ogre, for crying out loud!

Who said MS didn't fund the changeover? It's common knowledge to ANYONE who can read. I don't care what some MS talking head came up with....fact is, 100 went to Dreamworks and 50 went to Paramount proper. That's 150 million to prolong this stupid format war.

I don't see why devs would suddenly turn tail and run just because a film studio walked away. Big whoop. Apples and friggin' oranges TC. Let's talk about games in this gaming forum! (can I get a WOOT please?).

Besides, let HDDVD have Dreamworks...I couldn't care less...Blu-Ray has Pixar.

Worried, ah no. Blu-Ray is going to stay.

So you think they "ditched" Blu-Ray completely huh? Why would they specifically state this is a TIMED exclusive and the fact they can't even release any Speilberg movies says volumes on what people think of HD.

They decided to take cash for 18 months instead of making Blu-Ray movies. The moment this timed contract is up, you can bet they will be making Blu-Ray movies.

In reading your statement about being worried that there doesn't seem to be a lot on the horizon......are you some kind of troll or was that an honest mistake? You think early next year PS3 has nothing on the horizon? Did you even watch E3 at all?

Ok PS3 fanboys, enough is enough. "Blu-ray is awesome," "hd-dvd is worthless, it can't do games or music." Just because you want your console to thrive doesn't mean that the media format it plays is going to win. Both medias have their advantages and their disadvantages, your words will not determine the outcome. This may be a little off topic but in regards to MS buying out all the companies to make games for the 360. I remember when the PSX first came out, people were a little wary about it, then Sony started throwing money at developers to develop for their system, much the same way that MS is doing now. So before you go running your mouth about how evil MS is, just remember this, Sony did the same thing to muscle through Nintendo and Sega.
