will mgs 4 be enjoyable if i havent played a previus one?

and another question: i tryed playing mgs 3 at my friends house and i wanted to know how simular is mgs 4 to mgs3 (in it's form of gameplay..) thanks :)

Thec gameplay has improved a lot and I do recommend playing the previous ones but if you go to the PSN STORE you can download MGS database which gives you information about the things that happened in the past games and you can read it after you finish MGS4.

But if you plan on reading it before don't worry it wont spoil anything for you things that are related to MGS4 story are locked and you can only view them when finishing the game.

You are really cheating yourself of the true experience by not playing the previous games. So much of the story (and story is a MAJOR part of this game) will simply be lost on you. So while you'll still enjoy the game without playing the previous ones, you really won't be getting the most out of it. I highly recommend you giving MGS 1-3 a try first.

As for your other question: you can definitely get by with running-and-gunning in this game more than you can in the other ones.

heres my half ass aummary of MGS series

let me sum it up mgs series 4 you

there was a soldier code named naked snake we was such a good soldier they cloned him and made solid snake(good) ,liquid snake(bad) solidus snake(bad) , theres another guy named oceolot we dont know who he works for but liquid snake dies and gets his arm attached to oceolot so liquid lives in oceolot body and solid snake(good) has to kill him in mgs4 , theres also metal gears (nuclear missle launching tanks) involved . thats all you really need to know,OH !and the patriots there a shady orinization no one knows about .also solid snake (good) has been injected with fox die (kills snake) by naomi hunter . and something about AI . BUT TRUST ME IT GETS MORE COMPLEX BUT YOU CAN JUST IGNORE THE NITTY GRITTY FOR THE MOST PART . you wont be to confused , IF YOU WONT TO UNDERSTAND MORE buy the boxset withh all the MGS games

You will enyoy it, but you will enjoy it much mor if you play the other games.

Half of the fun is learning snakes story, seeing old faces, friends and past bosses.I am around halfway through the game atm (just done the 3rd boss) and its great.

Much of the game is cutscene, so if you dont know whats going on, you miss out on a lot.

MGS4 would still be very enjoyable thanks to its excellent gameplay. But if you haven't played previous MGS games, then you'll miss most of the story (I say most as the game does fill you in a bit on the story).

MGS4 has such an engrossing and great story that missing it out would be like missing half the game, but good thing is that the other half (gameplay) can stand on its own as a reason to buy the game.

Though I may sound contradictory, I would not recommend playing MGS4 if you plan on getting the other game for the story. Reason is because MGS4 is a continuation of MGS and MGS2, with reference to MGS3 as well. Playing MGS4 would give away the ending of those games (partly, but still significant).

But, if you don't mind the story and/or won't be getting the past MGS games, then go straight ahead for MGS4; its a great game.
