Will MGS4 get a 9.5 like Halo 3 did?

I don't care much for game ratings because I know from my own experiences that games that arent over hyped can still beat popular games any day. Like lets take the final fantasy series for instance. It never gets any hype, you dont see people camping out for a FF game or anything like that. Plus on the first day FFXII was released they had a ton of them left on the shelves. Every store I checked they dont have Halo 3 because the damn game sold out all ready. So I got on GS today to check the score of H3 and I knew it was going to get an easy 9.5 just like that. Now the question is. Will Metal Gear Solid 4 recieve a 9.5 or another 8.0 like the first two games did? (not including the first MGS game for PSX). Metal Gear is one of those games that never needed to depend on hype or fame to become popular nor has it ever been a best seller compared to games like Halo 3. Still I am just wondering what everyone else thinks. Because sometimes good games get rated unfairly while over hyped games automatically score a high 10 or at least 9.5

A little too easy which made the game extremelly short and less replayable. Still it scored a 8.5 when compared to GTA which scored a perfect 10 on almost every gaming site due to its hype.

Why would you care what score it gets, just play it yourself and enjoy it, I think people need to stop taking reviews to seriously because the reviewer is only human and everyone who plays a game has different opinion.

LOL Actually they do camp for FF games in Japan though. But I don't really care for ratings either. If I'm to be a "fanboy" of anything, it'd be Metal Gear for sure. So I'm already sold ever since I even caught wind of it.

Personally I don't care what the score will be. I know what Metal Gear 4 represents. The Prof I needed was displayed in game play video by Kojima.

For all I care it can get a score of 1. I don't by games based on reviews, I only consider their version of opinion.

Keep one thing in mind, MGS4 was shown to the media. Everyone who has seen it and played which includes Gamespot won't give it a bad score.

Will it be same as Halo 3? I don't care, I don't listen to Hype and Kids comments. MGS4 will be a great game, numbers mean nothing.

Im hoping it will get a 9.5 because it deserves it, but either way its going to kick ass and any fan of the MGS series, or people who just enjoy good games, should buy it and play it.

Its pretty bad when you cant depend on ratings anymore to tell you if a game is good or not.

the question is, is halo 3 a game that should get 9.5? with 8 hour of SP? it is the first halo next gen, what the game has about next gen?

for me i see it as a very popular fps with a very strong multi player mode. Is this enough to get 9.5? in my opinion no, but that's just me...

mass effect will be a much more complete game than halo, the first true next gen 360 title imo, and that one will get lower scores.

Well, it's not really that you "can't" depend on it. When it comes to reviews on Gamespot, they are usually decent on theirs. It's just the mentality of majority of people that takes different scores the wrong way.

It doesn't matter much if the game got a score of 8 or 10. Both are very good games that those who enjoy the specific genre will always have a great time.

There is still of course a concept of a bad game and this is where I'm usually the most interested in. When a game receives a bad score, belove the 5.5 mark in my case, Gamespot is very good at explaining the cause of it.

We, as players understand what a good games is, when we play one.

Perfect example: The FPS shooter received a 7.5 score, and reviewers one of the point was: "well, it's yet another shooter in the genre that doesn't bring anything innovative".

I for example enjoy FPS genre and never get bored of it. I'd pick up the game enjoy it. All of a sudden that game in my mind is 8.5

it's a matter of an "opinion". It's not easy to be a "review man", and I'm sure as hell it's not easy to be fare at the same time.

However, there will always be, and as sad as it is - the majority is nowadays anyway. People who can't form their own opinion and are driven and brainwashed by hype, media amongst other sources...

you got to understand Microsoftis payingall these websites for xbox 360 to get hight scores (its all marketing), i mean look at Halo 3 that is most over rated game ever, and look at Heavenly Sword(beautiful masterpiece) and game got 8.0 and to me its way more fun thenfreaking Halo, Halo 3 is just like Halo 2 and 1 just graphics are little polished and all of these websites are rating it perfect because money talks, i can bet you that MGS 4 will get at least 8.0 or 8.5 no matter how good it gets, its all game politics man, dont look at websites scores go by your own taste.

the graphics in the game are going to be better then halo, the new features are going to be to upgrade weapons what metal gear solid or halo game was able to do that. a camo suit that takes color of your inviroment what game does that tell me please. it just a whole new experince. halo has not change much what new weapons. halo focus on the multiplayer more because to most fans that is more important not mgs they make sure you get the best experince in a single player game.that is why metal gear solid should receive a 10pancake203

Many games have done weapon upgrades. But real time morphing (color changing) on a camo suite has not been done by any other game (not I know of) in this complexity.

Now, I'm waiting for the much improved AI and the "emotion states of enemies).

it will probably get an 8 cause the game is to long and the price is to low.

oh and dont forget the framerate.. it will only be running at 60fps.

I think it'll get a a 8.5 or something which says under the score GREAT so dunno what everyone will complain about. I think if it came with full online in the box instead of just a starter kit then it would score higher and also think they wont lookt oo kind aon all the cut scenes.

I disagree about a few things with in your third comment(although I respect your opinnion):

Co-op is not a necessity although like someone else said it can add great replay value.(I'm not a huge fan of halo but halo2's co-op was really fun) As for the rubbish camera, mgs 3subsistence had a really good camera compared to alot of third person games and it really made up for the lack of the soliton radar. Most people don't like the online cause its not the fps view they are used to. But it's not supposed to be. It is a different type of game that not everyone likes but if you do it can be super fun. Even if you get your ass kicked like i do all the timee. You just have to get used to the controls and how to play an mgs game. As for the shadow of the colossus ending, i'm not sure what you found so dissapointing about it. It was a really great ending that had you fighting for your life until the very end. It was a great example of someone really trying to make a different type of game that is short on words but heavy on basic emotions.

I don't know; when a game is being previewed or even analyzed in the Hands-On section, they almost always say "It looks promising", "so far so good", etc. But when the game hits the shelves it earns some 6.0 (or even less) score. But they didn't tell in the previews that "it doesn't look so good", "I hope they fix this and that". If we had better media feedback with the game developers while they are in the process of making a game, many lackluster games could be avoided.

Sonic for Ps3 was a great idea that turned to be a horrible game (and I still love it, so reviews mean nothing; in the end, If you bought a game you didn't like at all you can always re-sell it; there will always be someone willing to buy it)). What would have been if we would have had a real feedback with Sega while they were developing it? Of course that didn't happen and we now have a game that scored 4.something.

Game critics would be more useful if they were made before a game is released and if they were used as feedback for the companies, so they can really know what we want, and what we don't. Game developers are not gods and they always need to be supervised (and not just by the company executives; those guys only think in terms of money and know nothing about games).

I say this because final scores say nothing; Halo 3 got 9-something? We knew that long before the game was finished, but that was because of the marketing behind it; I don't know in America, but in Mexico you can see Halo 3 propaganda almost in public restrooms and hospitals.

I'd say yes since the metal gear games always hit on top. I mean, MGS sons of liberty got 9.6, wich is higher than halo3 just got :S.

But I don't really know, it'll depend on the story, the gameplay and a LOT of subjectiveness (do the guy that rate it LOVED the other metal gear games, did he passed the other MGS? I suppose that if it's the same guy the gave a 9.6 to sons of liberty that rate this one, it'll get around 9.5 for sure. I mean, sons of liberty was one of my favorite game ever, and after what we saw of the metal gear solid 4 movies, the story could be as good (and a good story make a good game, not vise versa).

But nobody knows, at least we know that the game won't have flaws since kojima always delay his games till they are "ready" and that means ready! lol. So generally, MGS4 SHOULD get around 9.0 and 9.7, but if the game have flaws in gmaeplay(some controls, dunno) or glitches or if the game is limited in any kind of way, we'll see it on the rating. Gamespot stopped rating games fairly (in my point of view) since they do not give any reason for their "new" rating system. (before it was the "graphics/gameplay/story/value/etc" but right now it's a big vague...)

Anyway, we'll see it when the game pops. But even if it would score 7.0, everybody would buy it anyway since we know that wathever the rating, kojima was great, like on the last games, that's for sure. I mean, it's like halo3 would have had a score of 7.0, every x360 consoles owners would have bought it anyway if they loved the other two, that's why sequels are so powerful, because we gain a kind of "I know" about their games, and wathever the score, we WANT them, even if they are not good, to, at least, finish the story, lol.

My guess is 9.4 since I'm not sure if there is gonna be multiplayer (and gamespot underrate every game without online) so it's hard to say. But I suppose that if there isa good online or if the "prologue" of MGOnline that comes with the game is really great, they'll give it a 9.6, that's my gess.

You guys really sound pathetic.. Did you even read the reviews for halo 3.. They say why it got that score. In terms of over hypness MGS is the same way.. Heavenly sword got that score because their was a lot of flaws in the game. The graphcis are good yes, but does that make a game? Come on man, you guys sound really shameful. I bought HS yesterday, and i must say i have never played a game with such visual facialdetials. and i really dont care if joe blow said it was short, this wont be the first game thats for sure.

To many MGS fans, game itself doesn't matter as much as the story.

MGS4 can be dating sim for all I care, I just have to find out what happens.

It will get a good score, but I doubt it will be above a 9.0.
