I'm in the process of buying a cabinet specifically designed for games, but I have to wait a month before I can order it. Until then I keep my PS3 in this one. I kept the 360 there for several months before it started freezing, but once I took it out it stopped having problems. Since I play the PS3 considerably less, I thought it was okay to keep it there, but last night it froze on me when I was playing a completely fine copy FFXII. Should I take it out, or is there sufficient air flow in this cabinet?

Maybe the cabinet is cursed. Apart from that, it should be fine, try putting it on the top shelf instead to give it move space to ventilate.

That cabinet looks to crowded. Your best bet is have the PS3 standing vertical beside the cabinet because the console can disapate the heat much faster when it's vertical. I have mine sitting in a TV hutch. The only thing is that I lowered the top shelf as far as possible to allow all the other electronics to have a little space and be seperated at the same time (PS3 is on the top shelf with a little space on top for air flow). I hardly ever turn my system off at any time and it never gets hot enough to even kick the fan up past medium speed.

If you're going to keep your PS3 in that cabinet I strongly urge you to relocate the system to the shelf just below your TV. If you put your hand on the right side of the PS3 while it's horizontal you'll notice that a lot of the air comes from that vent and also from the back of the system. Where you have it now doesn't allow for much flow of air from the right side of the PS3 nor the back.

I would also suggest cutting a hole in the backing of your stand that allows for the air that comes out of the back of the PS3 to escape the TV stand. Do this for the shelf that sits directly below your TV.

--Cut a hole in the backing of your TV stand so it doesn't restrict the air that comes out of the back of the PS3. Do this on the shelf that is located just below your TV

--Relocate your PS3 to that shelf.

--With your new open back shelf and with the width of the new shelf you should have sufficient air flow for your PS3.

I hope it works out for you.:)

Iwouldn't be too paranoid but like the other poster said, make sure you leave enough room to the right and top of the system for air to flow, especially if youare laying it horizontally. I have a really nice entertainment cabinet but i had to send my ps3 in for repair because i don't think there was enough air flowing through it and it got insanely HOT. This time I'm going to just leave it out of the cabinet to be safe, but you should be ok if you have shelves that have enough of an air gap in between them, unlike what I have.
