From the rumors, it's looking like Sony will be scrapping the UMD format for its next portable console. Do you guys think they will at least leave a UMD slot so we can play all our original PSP games?

It seems like the PSP 2 is pretty imminent so I'm thinking of selling my PSP now before the PSP 2 is made official. I just want to make sure the PSP 2 will be backward compatible though before I sell my current hardware.

i think it will have a UMD slot for BC and a better version of the UMD like more capacity or load times. I'm sorry DD is not the way to go.

I don't think it's wise to sell your PSP. It'll be at least another 2 years until the PSP 2. I can only guess, but it probably will be BC.

I thought it was going to be a while too. I'm not so sure after reading this though.

I take it you didn't see Sony's response to that article. Sony went mad.

It's all just rumor at the moment, so there's no point in much speculation. Sony was pretty pissed at IGN's rumor mongering.

It would be wise not to listen to rumors and not sell your PSP since there are no proof of PSP2 anywhere to be found.

They isn't a real reason for right now to make PSP2. The PSP is selling well but doesn't have much games so they need to concentrate on that before they start to make a new handheld.

Interesting. But the soonest it will come out is late 2010, I think. Still some way off.

The PSP 2 hasn't been officially announced by Sony yet, and no information has been made publically available so all the PSP 2 rumours about not using UMD's are, as I said, rumours and nothing more. Unless one of us work for Sony, we'll have no idea whether or not the PSP 2, if released, will be backwards compataible with the current PSP or not.

And if you're planning to sell your PSP now before the PSP2 has been officially announced, that meaning it won't be out for at LEAST a couple more years yet, if it is coming out, then my friend your nothing short of an idiot.

And I don't know what IGN we're doing posting about rumours. They claim that the PSP 2 will probably have a touch screen similar to the iPod Touch and dual analogue nubs, but last time a rumour was 'leaked' about a Sony console, the console was delayed even more, deliberatley, by Sony (PS3). So it's all good IGN stating the new PSP 2 is defonatley coming out, but this statemant angered Sony, and it wouldn't supprise me if Sony took this in to consideration and delayed the PSP 2 longer, if it is to ever be released.

Actually...it would be quite smart to sell the original PSP before the PSP 2 is made official. The second Sony confirms the PSP 2 and release date, the value of the original PSP immediately plummets and by a significant margin. Use a little common sense before you start calling people idiots my friend...

I am using common sense. The PSP 2 hasn't been officially announced so we still don't know if it will be coming out. Another thing is, if you go to Gamestation, they do offers, what I mean is that when the Nintendo DS came out they let you exchange your GBA SP to pay for half the value of the DS, and the same thing will happen with the PSP 2. A PSP now will probably get you about £80 without games, but the PSP 2 will cost more than double that, mening if you get rid of it now then you won't pay for half of it. I'm not betting on this offer been available, but I'd get rid of my PSP this way. So think before you comment!

Ok wait...so you're saying you can get more with a trade in than you can by selling the handheld outright before the PSP 2 is even announced? No way, no how. I'm familiar with the deals you speak of, but they would offer you no where near the amount of what you could get by just selling the PSP right now. Buy low, sell high my friend. The value of the PSP will be at its absolute weakest point the very minute the PSP 2 is announced. Right now...the PSP is still pretty valuable as evidenced by your incessant defense of it.

And the "PSP 2 hasn't been officially announced so we still don't know if it will be coming out?????" Please! Of course there is going to be a PSP 2 and everyone knows it.

No we 'think' the PSP 2 will come out simply because the PSP has been so successful, and I have to admit it pobably will come out but you never know. And you get more for a trade-in for a PSP than you get money. I tried to sell my PSP and I got a £80 offer from gamestation in money and a £100 trade-in offer. Look feel free to get rid of your PSP now, you'll be the idiot, but if you wait you'll be able to use it in a special 'limited' trade-in offer 'if' the PSP 2 does come out. I did the same thing with my GBA SP to get my DS.

I tried to sell my GBA SP to gamestation a week before the DS was released and they offered my £30 money and £35 trade-in, but they had that offer that made an SP pay for half the value of the DS, and in that offer the SP paid £50 of the £100 the DS was worth, £15 more than their highest offer a week earlier. I know the value of the PSP will be next-to-nothing when the PSP 2 is announced, but wait because gamestation will have a similar offer to the SP and DS one if the PSP 2 does come out.

Dude...I'm not talking about selling it to Gamestation. I'm talking about selling it on ebay, craigslist, or just to a friend in general. Everyone knows video game stores rip us off with the measly trade-ins...whether it be for cash or store credit.

I can't see anyone buying your PSP off you at a decent price considering you can buy them brand new now for just £130. I'm not saying sell it to Gamestation I was just using it as an example.

IF they make a psp2, and i emphasize IF, it will probably play psp games. I'm only basing this off the fact that the PS2 has BC and the PS3 can still play ps1 games (and some people have the older ps3 that plays ps2 games also).

but honestly i think sony will NOT make a psp2 anytime soon.

hm.. psp 2 it depends if they would design it as a next gen handheld or just an upgrade if its just an upgrade themn they would definately have a UMD slot, why? simply because they want to keep their buyers able to access to their previous games.

well i ddoub there would be a psp2 soon so really no point of asking.

yeah it would be smart, like anyone would know when its release so you got to be smart loli dont think game stores will get the information of release dates any less faster than normal consumers as well. so if you want people you can sell it out as early as possible and wait probably 3-5years for a psp 2.
