Okay here are two of my biggest issues with the PS3--at least ONE of which I thought would surely be fixed by now, since the 360 actually launchedwith both,

1. You can't listen to your music while browsing XMB.

2. You can't listen to custom soundtracks while playing games.

What's Sony stance on these issues? What are they even doing with the PS3 in general? Don't care for Home at all

Only certain games have the feature; it's developer dependant, not Sony.

And your name... it.. it irks me.

My biggest complaint is it doesn't have true Ipod support to read the mp3s right. If sony were to make a virtual Ipod or some type of virtual music playing device that you could pop up by pressing xmb button a certain way that would be awesome. Instead of bringing up xmb you would also be able to bring up a virtual player

The first I can't figure out how to do nor do I really care. The 2nd can only be done in some games, and the only time I want to do it is in sports games mainly. More specifically, EA sports games or games like motorstorm. I have better music for the soundtrack, and there really isn't any ambient immersion. Therefore, instead of crossing their fingers that the developers arn't mean... They should just develop at dedicated music player that you can use at anytime (and just turn the games music off)

People also misinterpret what the ("April Fools") patent really is... I can't remember the details, but it's a very specified patent that's easy to get around and/or won't hold up in a court of law. I believe they patented the method not the concept (because it's too vague to patent). And thus, the method is exclusive to the 360's coding scheme anyway and has no bearing on the playstation 3.

Also, wasn't it an APRIL FOOLS joke? All the articles were posted around april fools.

At first I thought #2 would be cool, but it's actually not that good. I used to use it for SSHD and it was good for that, but even for like shooters like KZ2 and stuff it' doesnt make it any better. Plus the way M$ does it is patented so Sony can't do it the same way unless they code some different way or something. #2 isn't a big deal even people with 360's hardly use it.

i dont know wat kinda ps3 u got but my ps3 plays music while playin a game, i have 6 games that do, SSHD, MS2, Burnout paradise, and so on. but not all games, and thats not really sonys fault, the devs need to add that feature, sony already enabled that feature on the ps3 with a firmware update last year i believe, cant remember but some games ur able to use ur own music

If your music tastes arn't narrow, no game has a "Crap" soundtrack except for the ones where the music stops due to technical issues.

I listen to my awesome custom playlist while I play Burnout Paradise, Super Stardust, Wipeout HD, Supersonic Battle-cars, and 4 others. It's upon the game devs to make it work. I think Sony should make it mandatory.

You ever thought of racing games, or sports games for this feature? Fools are sitting here assuming people want to drown out Snakes voice in the single player campaign with Lil' Wayne or something. That elitist way of thinking is just asinine.

I 100% understand that a game developer who spent 1000s $ on music for their game don't care much on putting an option on their game so that the players don't listen to it ...

About the X360, as Microcrap believe they'r the center of the world, it's the X360 that bypasses the game and allows the player to listen to what they want, so the game developers didn't have any word to it and can't prevent it. Sony (who is a music publisher, don't forget it) is just respectful of music rights and lets the option to the game developers to implement this option or not.

gran turismo has always had great soundtracks. so does motorstorm. sports games are more immersive when you can hear the crowd and the band(if college) and arena sounds as well. what would be the point of sound designers if something they spend years on making so people can feel like part of the world they created can be replaced with mrs officer?

As the consumer I would like the option of not listening to the potentially garbage and definitely redundant soundtrack in a sports game, or racing game. For me I can get more immersed when I am listening to my favorite music.

Besides, I have already bought the game, so the royalties are already taken care of, the game designers don't get any less money if I don't listen to the music.

BINGO!

I mean music in games is supposed to create a mod! Imagine, you going in a dramatic scene and you are listening to some heavy metal? Or a Highly adrenaline pumped scene and you are listen to some Country Music....

In-game music is only good in only, nothing more, nothing less.

Devs want their music appreciated and rightfully so considering the effort that goes into producing a game's soundtrack. If you were a true music lover, you would love game soundtracks.

Uh huh, well let people think what they want.

It doesn't change the fact that all you have to do is turn on your iPod or stereo.

Instead of sitting around a forum complaining about it, you'd think some of these people would actually be trying to fix it.

It'd be a shame if they made custom soundtracks universal because a lot of games have great original soundtracks and it'd be a crime if people just drowned it out with what they normally listen to. It should only be added in where appropriate, like in sports or racing games.

I'm fine with having the custom soundtracks only in certain games. I don't really want to hear some of my Jurassic 5 while in a heated battle in KZ2. When I had a 360 I barely used the feature anyway. It's not important at all.

1. Yes you can. Just press the PS button while playing music. 2. Some games do. I can see if you like music in game, this would be frustrating. I would never listen to my music in game. It would kill the mood. Unless it's racing or sports, which I hate both so...
