My cousin wants to get a PS3 but wants a fat one, not a slim. He is going to get one around February (His birthday) and is wondering if the 80GB model will be discontinued by then. Does anyone know?

Depends if the stores have shifted them by then. The model has been discontinued, as the slim is coming out. Probably better to check online nearer the time

Sony has already confirmed that their factories discontinued the 80GB & 160GB Fat PS3 models. Only the Slim 120 GB PS3 will be on the production line from now on. Theres a big chance that your cousin wont be able to find a fat PS3 by Feb next year in store. Ebay might be his best option by then.

Yes, why would they not discontinue the production of the old fat PS3? In any case, I'm sure you could find one online some where in February.

I'm pretty sure Sony is only going to produce the Slim PS3 from now on. Just in recent weeks, Sony was touting the news that they were able to shave production costs on the PS3 by 70%. With the PS3 Slim already revealed, it is quite obvious that they achieved that 70% reduction with the PS3 Slim model.
