Will The Last of Us just be a filler for Uncharted 4 to come out on PS4?

My question is Naughty Dog having made The Last of Us do you see it becoming a regular series or do you think it might have just been holding the gap for Uncharted 4 to arrive on PS4. Shall we see both these series by Naughty Dog or do you think they will only be one.

I wouldn't call The Last of Us a filler to be honest, the level of production value, game quality is one of the best in the industry. I believe The Last of Us will become a series however and I also believe the Uncharted series that made PS3 so popular, will also make a comeback on the PS4.

Both series will be one of the major exclusives in PS4 library. 

Who knows, they've never carried a series into the next gen so Uncharted might be out, but they've also never developed more than one series for a single gen and TLoU changes that. They're split into 2 teams now, so we might get both or completely new IP's. But you would imagine that Sony would pay them a lot of money to keep Uncharted going for another game or two, it's a system seller, but you never know. 

I'd like to see more Uncharted but at the same time, I'd like to see some new IP's. Hopefully they can deliver both. 

As far as the roumour go the next uncharted will be called uncharted 4 : boat and storm, it was a roumour on twitter but i duuno if its true. Well as the elements go water is next in line.

I think it's too early to say whether TLoU should be a regular series or not. I mean, none of us here know anything about it, and the type of story ND is telling may not be conducive for a sequel. Personally I wouldn't be upset if TLoU turns out to be a "one and done" project simply because there are too many sequels already; this gen was rife with them and I don't understand why most people seem to think every game that comes out needs to be turned into a series of some sort. Uncharted, on the other hand, I would not be surprised to see a next gen release in another couple of years or so. But for now it needs a break.

I don't look at it as a filler.

Both will be amazing games.

I'd like to see another new game after The Last of Us and then another Uncharted. I don't want ND to be only known for Uncharted, even though it's their major franchise. I don't want the quality of Uncharted 2 diminish over time either.

I doubt it's filler, though I hope it doesn't turn into a drawn out series.  From everything they and the media/previews have said, it seems like this is a tight story based around strong characters.  Dragging it out may take away some of the impact of the story.  And as said already on this thread, U3 would be the filler out of all they've done this gen, and even that wasn't a bad game (the last few levels were really good I thought).

Screw Uncharted 4 and the PS4, The Last of Us will be awesome!

I strongly feel the other Naughty Dog team would demo Uncharted 4 on the PS4, for some reason i do not feel they would make a new IP at the start of next gen. Uncharted has become a flagship tittle for Sony and that is something Sony would want to use to their advantage. Obviously Naughty Dog would make a new IP when the gen continues but for starters i strongly suspect they would show amazing over the top stuff of Uncharted 4 at E3

I do know Uncharted 4 has been mentioned for PS4 who knows we might hear about it at E3 or some big event. For me the Last of Us I think it's a bit difficult to say.

No. They've thought of an interesting idea and decided to execute that idea, it's not filler. I don't think it'll become a series but it looks like a seriously awesome standalone title.

Considering Sony registered domain names for The Last of Us 2 & 3, I think it's going to become a series on the PlayStation 4.

Also, don't mean to jump the gun, but from the looks of gameplay, The Last of Us might end up surpassing the Uncharted series in my opinion.

"Filler" would suggest that it would be a sub-par, half-assed game that will pale in comparison to UC4 if it is ever made. Uncharted's ugly cousin if you will. So no, I don't think its just filler. It looks like Naughty Dog is putting a lot into this game. I also hope they don't make an UC4 for PS4. Move on to something else Naughty Dog.

As for Uncharted, I've got U3.  I've also just discovered the 3d aspect of that game too.

UC 4 or The Last of Us?  - I don't mind as long as both games are either as good as, or better than, the Uncharted 3 which to my mind, the 3D aspect is absolutely brilliant when viewed via my PS3 and my LG Cinema 3D D2343 23" Monitor.

i believe the group who made uncharted 2, moved over to start the last of us and left the other half to finish off Ucharted 3, 

to the topic at hand tho, honestly naughty dog have never taken a series beyond the gen, which i'm hoping the same, as much as i love uncharted i feel as uncharted as a triliogy is good enough, and the last of us will prob just be a standalone game to mark the end of the ps3. i could be wrong and they have gone all money greedy on us and have just done what every other person is doing and just making sequel after sequel.

but history shows, crash bandicot got 1,2,3 and a racing game, jak and dexter got 1,2,3 and a racing game, and people still want and wishing for them to come back out. so for me it seems like Uncharted 1,2,3 and then the last of us, is a worthy end for the ps3, ps4 i'm hoping for a brand new IP. 

I think TLoU was never planned as filler, nor will it ever be considered filler. I would gladly take it over UC4. I thought I read somewhere that TLoU was originally planned as a one and done title. But recent events have changed my mind.

While I'm sure that Joel and Ellie's tale will conclude with TLoU, there's no telling how many off shoots it will spawn in it's 'verse'. If it sells gangbusters, we'll likely see future titles set in other major cities/countries.

No need for sequels 24/7. ND has built a fairly solid reputation, I want to see what's next from them in game/story evolution.

Nope.

I think the Last of Us looks way more interesting than Uncharted. Don't get me wrong, Uncharted is a great series...but I'm pretty much done with it. I'm really hoping Sony will focus on some new Ips and other titles in their catalogue, rather that just running their super popular stuff into the ground. Look whats happened to GOW.
