As a PS3 owner with one of the first launched PS3s I have a question.

Is the new software emulation going to be able to be used in my older PS3 model?

The reason I even want the newer emulation is because of the possibility of HD upconverting, when I do get an HDTV.

I don't mind so much if it doesn't, but this is a good question.

are you serious where you found this out ? can they add it with a update ? i still rather have an original one since i can play almost all games and have emulation too accodintg to what you say. i was debating whether to buy one now or wait till they make all SKUs have emulation(suppose to happen in late april, phil is suppose to announce this at GDC). tell me where you found this out !!!

Well.... if they couldn't then they'd have to update the firmware as if it were two different machines, I doubt it. There was an update for games that use the PS2 harddrive that's still available... hm.

Most probably yes. They will probably disable the EE once the Emulation will have an high enough % of BC. I did not get this anywhere though, only what I think so who knows.

the emulation they are going to add is through software, not hardware. They are taking out the emulation hardware that the first PS3s have and are going to use software for all emulation. So obviously any PS3 will be able to download and use this software since they are running the same hardware.

Thanks, that explained a lot, even if there's no evidence to back it up.

so that means even the US models are gonna have the chip taken out? i mean like i know the EU models dont have the chip just wondering if the next set of US models are gonna have the chip taken out or not. if they chips do get taken out of the US models, what do u think is better, getting a model with the chip or one without the chip.
