is it worth getting a vertical stand to prevent my ps3 from overheating?

will having it in a stand keep it cooler?

OR WOULD A FAN BE BETTER?

this is my second ps3 and when playing tomb raider the ps3 swithes off and my

screen goes black , it had no problems for most of the game but now does

i belive it is probably a heating issue again PLEASE REPLY

You need to put your PS3 in a more open area - more than 1 foot of space on all sides of it.

it doesn't matter either way.. as long as it has proper ventilation room... I guess that vertical though would be a tad cooler as it has less surface area on the ground...

Actually, some dudes a while ago conducted research on two PS3s - one of which was vertical and another of which was horizontal. They concluded (after using thermo-equipment) that the horizontal position indeed keeps the PS3 cooler. Source: http://playstation.joystiq.com/2007/11/28/ps3-too-hot-try-keeping-it-horizontal-thermal-image-guarantee/ But besides that minor tweak, giving your PS3 a lot of space is of utmost importance.

Dude just keep your PS3 in an open area as others have said. I have a launch PS3 and have had no issues with it whatsoever. *knocks on wood*

Just recieved my refurbished ps3 and the thing overheats and shuts itself down after about an hour of play. It is in an open area. Not sure if it is a defect or not. If your concerned about the overheating issue I would recommend getting a stand alone fan to blow cool air unto the system. Should work.

I have mine suspended from the ceiling using fishing string. Works like a charm.

just make sure there is enough space for the ps3 to breath... at least a foot of space in the back and at least 8inchs on the sides...... makes sure your ps3 is on a hard surface... it does not need additional fans... and the best way to prevent the ps3 form over heating... is dont play play it for 10 hours straight... take breaks... your ps3 will last longer

I've had my 60 gig standing vertical for about three years now and it's on 24/7 without any kind of problem. Just make sure to clean the vents often with a vacum or duster along with using canned air to blow the system out ever so often.
