A big thing that I would like the Vita to have is multitasking. So we can, lets say, listen to music while surfing the web.
Also making music-playlists on the console.
But anyway, does anyone know yet if it will support multitasking?

Seen as the Vita was just confirmed to have 512MB+128MB RAM (more than the PS3/360!!) multitasking is highly likely to be a strong feature on the Vita.
Thats a very good indicative that indeed will support it. Though I don't see myself using it much since it would probably drain the battery a lot faster)assuming it's actual multitasking and not just suspending operations)Seen as the Vita was just confirmed to have 512MB+128MB RAM (more than the PS3/360!!) multitasking is highly likely to be a strong feature on the Vita.

Can someone confirm this, that would be a great feature.
BTW our avatars are gonna duke it out.

Probably more akin to the 3DS where the OS reserves say 64MB. So its probably suspending operations.

It's a nice feature and if they don't do it then that's just another advantage that the competition can use against them.
I'm pretty sure theres a difference between mobile RAM and console RAM.Seen as the Vita was just confirmed to have 512MB+128MB RAM (more than the PS3/360!!) multitasking is highly likely to be a strong feature on the Vita.

Haha, funny. :)PSP can already listen to music while on the web and you can make playlists by making folders in the music folder :lA big thing that I would like the Vita to have is multitasking. So we can, lets say, listen to music while surfing the web.

Agreed. Just shut off the game for a minute if you want to browse the Internet or whatever. :D
Well, you'd have to find a save point before shutting down the game...
Multitasking's a reason why I love my iPad. I can play good games while listening to my favorite music. I can also suspend the game to do whatever I want. It's a really nice feature to have.

The difference here is that the games for the iPad aren't really resource intensive. And comparing a handheld gaming device to a tablet is like comparing apples to oranges.[QUOTE="revway"]PSP can already listen to music while on the web and you can make playlists by making folders in the music folder :lA big thing that I would like the Vita to have is multitasking. No you can't listen to music while surfing on the web. As soon as you go into the webbrowser the music shuts off.
And I want to make music-playlists on the console. I want to make a playlist while I'm on the go. And also making folders means you have to put the same music track in like 5 folders for 5 different playlists.
I don't think anyone can confirm this yet. We probably won't know for a couple of months everything it can do...the large amount of ram should make developers happy though....so I wouldn't think multi-tasking would be a major problem.
This might clarify some things...according to Eurogamer, Sony has stated part of the reason the machine has so much RAM is to support multi-tasking...such as cross game voice chat. Article below:

From the sounds of it, though, it seems that it will run specific Sony background programs, like the solely mentioned cross-game voice chat. You never know, maybe we will have downloadable background programs. This might clarify some things...according to Eurogamer, Sony has stated part of the reason the machine has so much RAM is to support multi-tasking...such as cross game voice chat. Quite frankly this feature better be on the vita, if not they should have a very good reason for not having it in these days and age.

This.
Hell it will becool if you can surf the web while a game is running.
I thought I would mention that the 3ds can do this. So its almost 100% the Vita will.[QUOTE="jsclmurray"]From the sounds of it, though, it seems that it will run specific Sony background programs, like the solely mentioned cross-game voice chat. It's hard to say, the Vita has so much RAM I think there's a lot of room to play.
It's not about the RAM, I just know from past experience with Sony that they aren't very open to allowing others to use their hardware for other uses than games. They've kept (or tried to keep) things very closed on the PS3 and the PSP, and I doubt that the Vita will be much different. It's hard to say, the Vita has so much RAM I think there's a lot of room to play.

Letting small-time developers make simple apps is one thing, but letting them run background programs is another. I doubt Sony will allow that.
But this very much speculation. All we know is that Sony has plans for one single background program. Personally, I doubt we will see very much change in multitasking after launch.
