Sony has pretty much adandoned the backwards compatability. For what? Who knows? They got rid of that but didn't really offer anything in its place.dsgrce
Uh, yeah they did. A lower price. BC was one of their major cost cutting moves. People whined about how high the price was and now stores are graced with an absolute shadow of what the PS3 used to be.

Amen brother. I have a 60gb, and will be keeping it from here on out. If it breaks a few years down the road, I'll have it repaired, not replaced. I posted a forum earlier, one of my favorite PS2 games is Sonic Mega Collection Plus. They just fixed the problems with that game wiunder system software 2.30.[QUOTE="dsgrce"]Sony has pretty much adandoned the backwards compatability. For what? Who knows? Exactly.... that's why I'm glad I got my 60gig when I did. And like VERS1ON said, it was definetly worth the extra money....seeing as more people are becoming interested in the PS3, they want a model that can play all PS2 games as well as PS1 games.
i have to say, it really feels unfair. I have the 40g ps3 and not only that i cant play ps2 games my country dont have psn so i cant even buy stuff from it so if they will put ps2 games there like gow which i never played i wont be able to get it. I payd the same as everybody else on my machine why cant i get all of the services?
I'm still playing FFXII on my 60Gb PS3. I've also recently picked up Ico and also plan on picking up SotC in the not-too-distant future.
Still, I knew that backward compatibility was going to be important to me, which is why I bought the 60gig version before it got phased out.

Nice shadow to. Outselling the 60 as of late "on pace to pass it like a car thats standing still" which it is. While the old shadown could not.
will the 80 g be able to play ps2 gamesthegreatleviath
The 20GB, 60GB, and 80GB all play PS1 and PS2 games. 40GB only plays PS1 games.

Actually, Sony had said that the reason they cut BC was because it was cutting into PS3 software sales. Removing the BC from the consoles barely saves them ANY money, they were hoping it would INCREASE revenue to not give people the option of playing all their old games instead of going out and buying something new.
Whether or not it's worked out for them, I don't know. If they're considering bringing the BC back, apparently it wasn't worth whatever they made off of it. Good... it was a shady move to begin with.
