Well...I know Im not affected by this so my post is kinda meaningless...but is backwards compatability that amazing? I mean how fun is it to play the same old PS2 games on your new PS3....wouldnt you rather have more PS3 games?...I would take your launch line up over backwards compatability any day....

dont think of it as a downgrade, they've finally removed ps2/ps1 chipsets and now running it through the ps3 chipset to increase performance.

Yeah, I think a lot of people are jumping the gun here, and doing what all the Sony rumor starters do. Making a mountain out of a molehill. It's no worse than the PS3 that was released in the US and JP. We didn't have full BC when it launched here either. Do you think because your launch systems were pushed back, they should be superior, even with new hardware/software in them? I dunno, it seems silly to deliberately try to make yourselves sound even more victimized, because of a good thing. You'd think the Europeans would be more positive than the other places in the world. They are always talking about how much more civilized they are :P (IT'S A JOKE).

Am not going to buy an PS3 at lunch.  I had the PS1&2 and was looking forward to buying myself a PS3 last year at the original lunch date.  So i ended up getting myself an xbox which was good but i still was looking forward to getting myself the PS3 at the end of last year but when i found out Europe was ignored and had to wait i wasn't happy to say the least but i love playstation and i was willing to wait without much fuss.

The main reason why i won't buy a PS3 at launch is because there isn't really enough good games out for it that will make me want to buy it.  I know someone might say alot of good exclusive games will come out for the PS3 and i beleive that but most of the games are out in 2008 that i want so am just going to wait before i will buy.

I am also had enough of waiting.  Waiting for the PS3 to come out, waiting for good games, waiting for games to blow away xbox360 like sony said.

PS3 was going to be lunch around the same time as the xbox360 so game makers have been making games for both machines around about the same amount of time so there is no excuse why the PS3 don't have more game.

EUROPE WASN'T IGNORED. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, SONY DELAYED IT FOR A REASON. STOP ACTING LIKE YOU'RE VICTIMS IN THIS. Sorry, It is just driving me crazy how a lot of people are acting like Sony is purposely jacking them around just to be funny. They are a business. They do what they feel is best for their customer, AND the product/company. This will most likely lower expenses, as well as allow for the possibility of PS2 games upscaling, with progressive scan. Just wait it out. Man... I should just stop posting, before I offend someone. I am trying not to, I just wish people would realize it IS NOT that big of deal.

People who have been following the PS3 saga would have known that this was going to happen eventually, old PS1/2 components were always going to be removed eventually and the PS3 BC would be run entirely with PS3 hardware.

I feel however that it is too soon, Sony need to follow through in Europe and launch it properly with the latest Firmware updates on the tried and tested system that was launched world wide, even if it was only the initial batch of consoles it would pique the interest if casual consumers more if they knew that their old PS1/2 games would safely work on the PS3.
What gave the PS2 the ultimate edge was BC with PS1 games, Sony used its past console as a building block in which to build on, if the PS3's BC is inadaquate it could.. will hurt Sony's image.

I work on the ground level in retail, I've spoken to customers and what they want is to be able play their current library of Playstation games on the PS3, the 360's launched caused a lot of people to scratch their heads in confusion and led to them stalling on purchasing the next gen console, I can see the same happening again.

I'm not really too worried myself, I've been set to buy one for over a year now but I'm left confused by the antics of Sony messing around with things at the last minute, they may be saving a few £/$ per console but there going about it in at strange pace.

They should launch the current PS3 model now and continue working of the firmware updates behind the scenes, then launch the new PS3 model with the firmware installed when its ready, the average consumer wouldn't notice the difference.
