I was just wondering whether you would continue to buy umd's, if the PSP Go! or PSP2 doesnt have the umd drive. Looking at all the rumours there is one common thing, there is no umd drive. So would our money be better spent on downloading from the PSN? Instead of spenting it on umd's that may become useless in the near future.

I was just interested in what you guys thought of this.

I will definitely continue to buy UMDs. It's been said before, and I'll repeat it again - many gamers need to have something tangible when it comes to a video game. It's just not the same owning a physical hard copy versus owning a digital copy.

This is even more true for the video game collectors among us. Every now and then I glance at my collection of video games with a sense of awe - can't exactly do that with a memory stick.

I haven't bought a UMD movie/game in a while. With the news of these rumors flying around, I'm gonna wait til this fall or until it's been debunked whether I'm gonna buy any more UMDs or not. I've got other systems/handhelds to keep me busy anyway. Hey, even the VHS had to go one day, so why not UMD? :)

I will keep buying UMD's but if they will do the Patapon2 thing for other games than that would be good too because I will still have a box with manual.

This, but what concerns me is that I will not be able to trade games

I've never even brought 1. The only reason I have a UMD is 'cause I got in a package deal. For videos and suck I rip them from my own collection of DVDs and then convert them a few times to get the timing right till the end of it.

I see no reason to 'waste' what little money I have on UMD as it is now.

What is Gamestop gonna do? And I bet this is how the next Xbox and PlayStation will be. If not the next the one after that in like 2016 or so.

It sucks. It does however work great on the ipod touch, but those are really cheap and I don't mind spending only a few bucks on download only games. I just can't see spending $60+ on a download only game

Or even $40!!

One more thing, do you knowthat you can play Patapon 2 for free as a flash game, it's at Hall Pass, or Addicting games I forgot which one

Capcom has just been out saying they wont give up the UMD and that means trade market. When people go to etc EB games to trade games they also see the new games for their consoles and that is invaluable for the companies, why ? because not all people can dowload from the internet or they dont even have internet. PS this is all rumors just as 2 years when people thought the UMD would be blu-ray.

No, not currently becauese if the rumours turn out to be true, then I wasted cash for nothing if I buy the new psp, but if the new PSP does come out without a UMD Drive then I'm pretty sure they will stop making UMDS as a whole and focus on downloading from PSN or what ever.

Sony would never turn their back on 3 versions of psps. If an all download unit does actually come out, I'm quite sure UMD's will still stick around for a while.

Just think of the outrage there would be if all the sudden Sony stopped producing UMDs. All the customers not willing to upgrade would be royally screwed over..

I am quite happy to switch to digital distribution; the ability to carry around a dozen games on a memory stick without having to lug around a dozen discs is an excellent convenience as far as I'm concerned.

Yea, I'll continue to buy UMD games for my PSP2000. I just started getting back into gaming a month ago and looking forward to building a physical collection for my budding game library. I've seen member photos of extensive collections and I'd like to admire my own personal collection as it expands.

I'm sure I will still buy some of the digital distribution "exclusive" titles that will only be available via downloads, but I'm going to buy up all the UMD titles that catch my interest as well.

Sure, UMD collections look nice, but if Sony started putting all of its games on PSN, I would have to go with that. It would most likely cost less, and run faster, and you wouldn't have to worry amount UMD condition or keeping track of them. I have nothing against you if you like UMDs more, this is my opinion. I'm not judging you, you don't have to judge me.

Only games that I want that can't be obtained from PSN. I have a large and somewhat empty MS so I actually prefer DL'd games over a hard copy. Aww dang, post 250. Bye folks! Won't be loggin' in for a long time.

Without a UMD or games on MS the new PSP wont sell. this is how I see a person who never had a PSP before.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Costumer; Hello I want to buy a PSP2

Retailer; Sure, let me get one for you.

Costumer; Where are the games ?

Retailer; You have to download it from Playstation store.

Costumer; Download it ?, how much does a game cost ? and how much time does it take to download because you see I have a slow internet connection.

Retailer; Well if you have a slow internet connection, it can take between 30 min to 2 hours and the price depends.

Costumer; What sort of games does the PSP2 have ?

Retailer; I dont know ! we just sell the hardware.

Costumer; huh ?

Retailer; We cant really advertise for something we dont sell and I dont have the PSP2 myself, I am a DS fanboy, so what you do with the PSP2 after you bought it, is up 2 you.

Costumer; Ok hmmm, so If I dont like a game that a have downloaded, what can I do ?

Retailer; Sorry man, but I have no Idea what to do with the PSP2, but I advice you to call Sony Playstation.

Costumer; Hmmmmm, this is weird, I dont get why you cant buy a physical game for the PSP2 and what if people dont have internet ?

Retailer; Then they cant use the PSP2, but it should not be a problem because it is the same with the Ipod, millions has it.

Costumer; Yeah but it is easier to handle/download music than big files like games.

Retailer; Yeah well, do you want to buy it ?

Costumer; Hmmm I wanted 2, one for myself and one for my kid, but it seems a bit complicated, how much is the new DS, I can see you have alot of games for it and you had one yourself right ?.

Retailer; Sure, let me get one for you, the DS is GREAT !

The thing is though they cost more. I got Resistance Retribution Limited edition for 18quid. On the PSN they want 25quid where is the sense in that!!

i'm wrestling with this myself. I just got rid of my ds because i heard of all the great games coming to the psp (soul cal, assassins creed, tekken, lbp ect). I then started reading about the psp go! and was immediately turned off. I want a psp bad esp with all of the support it seems that it will be getting but i'm not going to spend $180 on a psp3000 if none of those games are even going to be in umd format. I am big into trading games, without trade ins i wouldn't be buying half of the games i do now since i have car bills, credit card bills, rent, ect to pay every month. Digital downloads completely get rid of the used game market which i think would be suicide for any console given how tight money is now adays. Digital download is cool for little arcade style $10 games or ps1 throw back downloads but to expect someone to pay full retail of $30 or $40+ and then not have anything tangible to show for it is just nuts.

Yeah i'll be gettin' more umds even if the psp 2 doesnt have a drive... Even if the psp 2 is backwards compatible by playin' the old games on the memory card or something like that I prefer havin' a hard copy with me.. Can't beat having a pretty case and manuals when u pay + 40 bucks for a game most of the time...

Seems to me that if they want to do completely digital distribution, they should cut out the price of the game that goes into making the cases, manuals, and disks. If any of the subsequent generations are comp. digdist and STILL 40-65 bucks depending on the console then I won't waste my time. That's a large profit margin (compared to today), one they'd be all too happy to cash in on.

If they still want to at least give the collectors a hard copy, then keep the price of the hard copy at its standard price, but cut out box/manual/disk costs for the people willing to DL.

I wouldn't buy UMD's personally. If I want a game I can start DL'ing it then leave for work. By the time I'm back: ta da! It's done. Time isn't a major issue. It's not really fair for anyone who doesn't have an internet connection (or a significantly bad one) though. Maybe the game retailers could have a download service instead? Leave your PSP with them until the game is DL'd? I dunno. The time factor still comes up... and it'd look like a PSP daycare after a while.

I agree. And umds are fragile too. Some of my games have stopped working because of the plastic sleeve coming apart that holds the disc. I take very good care of my games but I guess it is from wear and tear. I love the idea of downloading my games to a memory stick.

I think Sony should have game kiosks in Wal Mart,Gamestop,etc.. That way the people without an internet connection can just go to the store and download their games.

I used to buy UMD's until i meat someone who said to me"You buy UMD'?Are you efed up in da head?i get them for free!!" thats when i started downloading them(not from the psn store) because i am sick and tired of waisting from 40 to 60$ on video games, i dont have a lot of money, shiiiii im still in school. So now i download games like every 2 days or so for free, even if it is illegal and now i have my won personal collection on my comp, so i hope they continue to make UMD's, because some out there will buy 1, upload it on the internet and il get to play it for free.

Hope Sony will solve it and NOT leave current PSP owners stranded in the future. 8)

And yes, I probably will keep buying UMDs.

One UMD contains what.. 1.8 Gb? I chose the PSP over the DS because I liked the idea of a ps1/ps2 in my backback. With the current memory stick price/size I'd prefer the UMD to stay. Otherwise we're going to get smaller games.

Hell yes I would still buy regular PSP UMDS whether it was a regular PSP game or a movie. Plus I'm not gonna spend another 200 bucks on another PSP. I'm going to stick with the regular PSP. Just hope that the newer games that come out are still compatible for the regular PSP

I agree with you as it is for now, but the rumor says there will be a new kind of MS with large capacity especially made for the PSP, whether the price will be the same, cheaper or more, well your guess is the same as mine, but as I said this is just a rumor and should not be taken seriously.
