My modem and wireless router's downstairs but odds are my PS3 will be set up upstairs when I get it so, is there a major difference in speed between wired and wireless internet connection? 'Cause my internets is teh suck and if the wireless is gonna be bad, I'm either gonna have to try to get the PS3 downstairs or just make it an offline console which is dumb imo.

i havnt tested the wireless connection...but wired is the prefered choice as it is WAY faster so chances are u would lag less.. but a friend of mine plays on wireless and he doesnt really complain. Infact he doesnt really lag that bad at all.... Go with the wireless cause offline only isnoway to play:P

depends. if you have a crappy B router, then a wired solution would be better. however, i have a wireless N router and cant really tell the diff between wired and wifi (there isnt that much interference if none at all)

the ps3 supports g networks, so only an n network wouldn't work, the transmission has to be in the mixed mode...

I have never had mine connected through a wired connection, but I can't complain one bit when it comes to playing RE5 online.

It depends or not whether you have got a good router with wide range coverage, if your connection is indeed slow, its time for an upgrade.

There is not a big difference but a small one still beneficial. I use wireless because my internet is quite fast so I download 1 gigabyte games in 15 minutes wireless and my PS3 is far from the router so I don't mind.

Wired is always much better when possible. I was able to finally tweek my system to a point that it's a 100% connection on my wireless network. The thing is it takes a lot of trial and error to get this kind of connection. I found that it makes a difference on where the router and PS3 is located.

The thing with getting routers to work properly with the PSN is to port forward it. Works like a charm after a few minor tweaks.

Im on wireless and downloading stuff off the PS store is incredibly fast! I downloaded 2 demo's in around an hour. For some reason it seems a lot faster than when i use my PC to download.

A wired connection is alot faster then a wireless connection, the thing is that no internet provider will give you a fast enough connection to make wired that much faster. My wireless connection can take up to 54MB/s but my internet provider only gives me 4MB/s. It mostly depends on if your PS3 is close to you router.

Theoretically, the ethernet would still be much faster than even 802.11n on an optimal setup. In reality though, unless you have like a 100/100 fiber connection, you are almost certainly not going to notice such a difference, especially on a console whose parameters you can't tweak.

why dont you test the bandwidth of the connection wired and wirelles on your ps3?.For my experience it reduce half by wireless(100% signal) but i think is my old router with only one little antenna...try to check the speednet test from you ps3 while is wired and wireless and tell us...

I tried the whole port forwarding thing and ended up fubarring my router so bad I had to wipe it clean and start over. Too technical for a computer illiterate like me, guess I spend too much time outside
