I have these two small box like devices that plug into an electric wall mount then to an Internet modem/PS3 via ethernet cable allowing for a wired connection anywhere in the house via electric cabeling. I also have wireless, so I was wondering if this sort of wired connection is still better than wireless seeing as the conection has to travel through my houses electric cabeling? Any connection pros know alotabout this sort of connection? I dont want to debate wireless over wired, wired is always better but what of this sort of wired connection?

iv been looking at the home plug things and have read some good things about them. im stuck on wireless at the moment because the phole line extension i had wired in got a break in it, end of the month im probably gonna pick them up as iv read they run much better than wireless. the only complaint i have about them is the price, i have 2 consoles and my PC linked up with an ethernet cable normally so to set up everything with its own connection so i wont have to swap cables will cost me about £150-200.

using the power line device should be faster than wireless, but you can run some D/L tests if you have a laptop. goto a site like pcpitstop.com and run their download speed tests connected to both the wireless and the powerline device, it should help you.

I am currently using the electrical wiring in my house for internet connection... I cannot go into specific detail about how quantitatively it has improved, but qualitatively it seems to have made a dramatic improvement as the wireless signal to my playstation has in the past dropped out consistently when playing online games, but has virtually been eliminated after making the switch. Probably depends on where you put your router and what type your using, but wireless is in general a lot more ethemeral lol can't think of another word to use and even use the ethernet connection from my electrical wiring on my laptop when the router decides to be a **** I would recommend trying it for everyone as its just as handy as wireless and more consistent.
