I decided last night to download the Heavenly Sword demo to show my wife since she thought it sounded cool/God of War'ish. The download was roughly 1gig. If I was downloading it on my computer I would be getting around 400k a second, and it would have taken ~45 minutes. It took about 2-2.5 hours to download.

My question is, does the PS3 throttle back bandwidth for downloads? Or is there a setting that would be throttling it back that I haven't seen? Or is this pretty normal?

When I was setting it up it was bouncing between 95-98% signal, so I don't think it's that. Maybe something funky was going on somewhere else on the the network that I didn't know about. It's no big deal, it finished, and that's all that really matters to me.

Team Fortress seems to run fine, it only lags occasionally and that's when there are about 12 players.

My router is less than a year old, so I don't think it is that. It is on the opposite side of the house, but like I said I get about 95-98% connectivity. I'm sure it's fine, thanks though!

My PS3 is actually closer to my wireless router than my 360, but my 360 downloads much faster. It all has to do with the Sony servers not being able to handle the load. They have been notoriously slow since day one.

I got my PS3 just after launch. I was all excited to get it setup, but first had to sit through a 45 minutes firmware update. Most of that was downloading.

Sony servers only slow down when all the people try to DL something at the same time. At least Sony servers don't crash for weeks

Actually, the Xbox Live problem makes it just like the Sony servers. During nights and weekends, things have been slow lately. So, I just do my downloading when I get up in the morning. MS usually posts stuff in the middle of the night instead of the afternoon like Sony. I get up in the morning, check majornelson.com and see if there is anything worth downloading and then go download it. Downloaded the 1.4 GB demo of The Club this morning in about 30 minutes.

Connectivitiy percantage doesnt really mean squat, my old router used to give me 100% and it would take about 3 hours to d/l a demo

my new router gives me 60-75% and it only takes 30 minutes

also it doesnt matter how new your router is, it could have came out yesterday and the company might have already released a new firmware for it

go to the company's site and check their download section to see if there is a new firmware

Ah ok, I was wondering if you meant the firmware. I will do that when I get home, and try downloading another demo.

Thanks for all your help!
