I'm pretty sure that the PS3 games are region free and that the blu-ray movies are the ones that are region encoded (although some movies overseas can be region free).

The games will work fine on your PS3. However, any DLC for the game that comes out is specific to the version of game you get- you would have to buy the extras made available in the store from the North American PlayStation Stores. Whatever is made available in the UK store (if/ when it is) would not work with a North American copy of the game.

The only concern I hear is if the online play is still good -- some say it is limited because of the region difference, others say they have no problems with it.

You have the answer above "samurai". Now you are going to have to put a little trust in, that's all

I remember them saying Home would be region locked according to where your console was sold (ie US) and not account, which could be a pain later on. But at least you'd still be hearing English.

You'll be fine with updates done directly in-game but any add-ons that you would purchase through the PlayStation Store is another story altogether. Those are set up specifically to the regions- North American games would need the updates found in the US or Canadian PlayStation Stores.

^ great sig, but he's right, you won't have any issues with games no matter what region they're from, I got a PAL PS3, and have games from all over the World, and have had no problems.

As long as you are hooked up via component or HDMI to a hi-def set you are good to go.

I play UK games on my US ps3 all the time. No region problems at all. Just don't buy foreign PS1 or PS2 games since those will still be locked.
