I wouldn't get one if I were you. My brother got one for last Christmas, and I played for a while, but it got old really fast. Also, if you have wi-fi, the internet server is terrible...
You should spend it on a better system or a bunch of games. Just my opinion, though.
Like most people said, if your out and about through out the week most of the time then yes it's a great portable device, but if your always at home and usually purchase your multiplatform games on a "next gen" console then maybe not.
It's pretty sweet when your at work or going places with peeps to bring it along to listen to music, maybe watch a UMD time to time. Of course you can't for get about all the great RPG's that are on the PSP. The Final Fantasy series usually come in remakes that look awesome by the way and other series; such as, The Legend of Heroes, MGS, Valhalla Knights, Brave Story, Disgea, GoW, and Star Oceans to name a few; not to mention Remote play which allows you to play classic PsX games on the PSP.
PlayStation Store is now available w/ your account. The store looks sweet with demos / trailers themes / pictures and the net is rather fast if you ask me. Just keep in mind of all the little things it's capable of doing and you'll see there's something for everyone...
EDIT:: Theirs a basic bundle coming out for the PSP 3000 thats the Piano Black w/ a 4GB memory card Duo. I think the price will go down to 169.99 like the Slim. Well good gaming
It depends on how much you love playing games. Regardless of whether you travel alot you can find plenty of great games for the system that are worth your time. I don't leave my house with my psp often but it's still nice to be able to play my games anywhere in the house.
My advise is to look through this site and try to make a list of every game you'd like to try for the system and if you can list at least 10 games that look like they're worth your time then go for the PSP. My list is up to 30 games right now. Oh and avoid the new 3000 if scanlines frustrate the crap out of you like they do me. Also don't forget that PS3 doesn't have much of a library for games right now and building a collection of psp games now would make your ps3 game collection better later on, and probably cheaper too.
I travel a lot so it makes a lot of sense in my world, but I also like it for when I'm being a potato watching TV... nothing kills a commercial break like a 2-minute burst of "BurnOut: Legends"... 'cept maybe kissin'.
:P
But there are a lot of good games for it as a system - "Space Invaders Extreme", tons of RPGs if you like that stuff, GTA games, I just got "Street Fighter Alpha 3 MAX" and so for the first time in my 30 year gaming history I'm learning SF moves - dang fireball! - There's a lot to the system that you kinda can't get anywhere else. I wouldn't bother to use it as a media player because of it's size, but for gaming on the go or on the couch it's a really cool device. You could get a PSP and some used games, and wait for the sell-through price of the PS3 games to come down... and in the meantime you'll get to have all of the fun of the portable and it's convenience...
... the real question is, are there a few titles you can name right-out that you want to play? Like, have you always wanted to play "Liberty City Stories" or are you a FF devotee to the point of buying the system based on the strength of that attraction? For me personally, it was seeing the version of "NASCAR" which EA Sports had on the system which sold me in a big way, in terms of a "Must-Have" application, and "Ace Combat X"... for some people, it's "SOCOM", being able to have that online experience on the go... I wanted to be able to have the console driving experience while I was traveling, so I bought it. I have since discovered my love of "Daxter", my brutality not to mention Taxi driving skills in "Liberty City", my infatuation with Cammy in "Street Fighter", I'm a Pocket Patton in "Field Commander", Nazi killing makes the day brighter with "Medal of Honor: Heroes 1 & 2", I found a reason or two past the initial inspiration.
Is there something in the PSP library which makes your toes curl with anticipation?
I'd have to say no, but that's because I don't like much of the games that came out for PSP. Right now it's just a brick for playing songs and videos. I use it on the bus and crap for music, that's about it. I definitely reccomend renting games before you buy them and not just going by their review scores and word of mouth.
Think about this way, do you wanna look back and ask yourself "Could my life have been different with the PSP?, Did i make a huge mistake in passing it up?....."
Okay, okay, okay, maybe the PSP isnt that life altering but still, its a great handheld and definitely not one to miss out on.
