I always wanted to get a PSP but the price was always a bit too steep for me. Now it's at a point where I'd be okay with purchasing it but with the NGP coming out soon and thus meaning the PSP is just about done with, would I just be wasting my money at this point? Theres several of games on the PSP I have wanted to try but I don't want to end up wasting my money. So I have three questions. 1. Is it worth buying a PSP anymore? 2. If it is, which model? 3. Can the PSP play imports?

Of course it's worth buying. You have a large library of good games to choose from (not to mention some big titles still on the way)... it's not like the approaching NGP changes that. I would get the 3000 were I you. Even if you don't want to use UMDs (which I'm sure you do--cheaper, etc.) it has a larger screen and the Go's advantages aren't very significant imho...

Yes, you can play imports. No region lock.

Yes because we don't for know sure when NGP will be out or how much it'll be. And if you buy PSN games now, you can play it later on the NGP. And there may be some UMD-only games that you may want that can't be played on the NGP. It's a win-win situation. So: 1. Yes! 2. Get the 3000. 3. Yes, you can play imports.

I have a 1000, 3000, and a GO. And I must say the 3000 is my fravorte PSP system. The only bad thing is you might want to buy a larger memory stick to have lots of PSN games on it (so you can import to the NGP later). Also, the games are so cheap now. I got Metal Gear Pease Walker for the PSP for only 19.99 at gamestop. :D

I say definitely pick one up, especially if you enjoy RPG's. The PSP has a great library of them. Get the 3000, the PSP-GO was a good idea with poor execution. Not all games are available to download. Plus I'm a collector, I like owning physical copies of the games. The PSP3000 can still download games as well.

Yup it is still worth getting; I still have my psp 1000 and when on the go [and when I have time :P] I play it as long as I can.

I suggest doing some research on all of the systems since each one has its pro/cons thus targeting different people.

I prefer the 1000 over the latest models;

Yes the PSP 2000/3000 is more slimmer, lighter, more portable, and has tv support but I noticed that the quality of the portable has been cheapened. It is not as solidly built as the 1000 and the grip of the 1000 is more comfortable due to the slightly rounded ends on the back of the system. Check out wikipedia for some detailed specifics and good luck :)

You forget that the 3000 has better buttons and a brighter screen with better colors and refresh rate. There is no comparison. The 3000's build is good enough.

If price is not the issue anymore, just get an NGP. And download some psn psp games for it, if you want to play psp games.

I say it's worth it. I bought my 3000 only a few weeks ago and I love it. And I want a NGP too, but launch system failures have taught me to wait a bit for the kinks to iron out. I was one of the earliest adopters of the PSP 1000 but visible dead pixels and a poor game library made me trade it in for some extra DS games. And I recently passed on the 3DS due to the weak launch titles and poor battery life. When it gets an upgrade, then maybe... And like previous posters said, you can get PSP games for good prices, used or new. And the extra money you save buying the 3000 system can be used on other things, like a memory card, screen protector, etc. With the money I would've spent buying a 3DS + 1 game (a $300 value), I've been able to buy the 3000, Kingdom Hearts, a 4gb memory card, 2 screen protectors, and still had enough money left over for the Patapon 3 release tomorrow. Not to mention Sony unexpectedly gifted me with 3 downloadable games. Money well spent IMO :)

*soundless rage* No, just no. The scanline "issue" is so boring it makes me want to die whenever someone brings it up. The only people I have EVER heard complain about it are 2000 owners.

1000 owner here. I've played my friend's 2000 for a mere matter of hours before playing a 3000 at an in-store demo at Gamestop. The difference was an eyesore. Even the view of the sky panning down during the title screen of some mediocre JRPG (I think it was The Legend of Heroes, or Valhalla Knights, or something along those lines?) showcased the 3000's horrible refresh rate and scanlines, scanlines, scanlines. I'm sorry, but some of us have standards. Why pay more for the inferior model? 2000 is where it's at, and once my 1000's D-pad finally goes, I'm replacing it with a 2000. If people want to buy 3000's, whatever. Easier for me to find a used 2000 that way. It's just sad that the fanboys have settled for such a faulty unit, and even sadder that Sony never rectified this glaring problem. Even worse than the DS Lite refresh rate change fiasco of 2006.

Definitely buy a PSP. The 3000 is probably your best pick ( even though i have one i still prefer my model-1000 from launch day ). I have a few imports myself and they all work fine, it is not region locked. Plenty of adventure, rpg's and puzzle games.

Since the 3000 has an improved refresh rate, and was the first PSP with absolutely no ghosting, I'm safely assuming you have no idea what you're talking about. "horrible refresh rate" indeed. And an in-store demo is hardly experience with a product.

If you're planning on upgrading to the NGP, I would get the PSP Go. That way you'll be able to trade it in towards the NGP and not lose any of your games that you've downloaded.

I've no real interest in the NGP.

Please explain the scanlines, then. I shook my head in shame when I noticed them, thinking "this is bad, even for a Sony product."

....I was describing just some of the aspects of the PSP [more of the physical aspects of the system rather than the tech aspects] which was why I suggested wikipedia and doing research {that's usually always part of my plan when buying a new system}.

I'm not against the 3000 [played some of my friend's system] but I prefer the 1000 over it because of the grip and the price -beneficial for me at least:P

The scanlines are hardly ever noticeable--pretty much only while scrolling through the XMB if I'm looking for them. Sure if you look carefully you might see them in certain parts on certain games... but overall the issue is negligible. I'm not the kind of person who's indifferent to visual fidelity either. Compare that to my first experience with the PSP 1000... I played GTA soon after the launch of the system and was so disgusted by the ghosting I had no interest in the PSP for about four years... when the 3000 came out and the ghosting was said to have been finally addressed.
