Hey guys I'm kinda out of the game loop...well have been since I quit WoW...that game ruined my zest for gaming in a whole. Anyway, I'm looking into getting a blu-ray player...I love being on the cutting edge. Anyway, I currently have a 720p/1080i tv with HDMI. I was wondering if the PS3 will look good on that as a blu-ray player. My folks have a 52 inch Sony 1080p tv...its like the top of the line. But, I'm transfering to Texas next spring so will a PS3 suit my 720p/1080i tv ok? I mean...I really love movies a whole lot so having the blu-ray player is like the main reason I want it...but I also like to play some games here and there. Resistance is pretty cool I guess, but gaming isn't what I'm after. Anyway, some feedback would be cool. Thanks guys.

The PS3 is supposed to be one of the top Blue-ray player on the market right now. So yes I think you'll be fine with one. I only have a 720p/1080i HDTV too and the picture quality is simply awsome

Yes movies looks much better in bluray even on a 720p tv.  The clarity takes a nice bump and color and contrast take a big bump up.  But it kinda depends on the source material too.  I bought the ps3 for 50% movies/50% games and I am quite happy with it.

Based on price alone (plus the versatility of media the console handles), I'd definitely recommend a purchase.  But seeing as you don't have much need for gaming, I'd go with the base package, the one at $500 (unless you think you'd make good use of the SD/Memory Stick/Compact Flash/60GB Hard Drive/Wi-Fi that's packed into the Premium).  Thumbs up from me.

A PS3 costs much less than your basic blu-ray player from what I've heard. So yeah, it's a good investment. Please correct me if I'm wrong!
