Would it be possible to replace a phat LCD with the new 3000 one?

If the connections are similar enough and the screen is the same size, perhaps. May require some skill with a soldering iron (and a new casing or a cutting a casing with a dremel).

But I've heard the new LCD has slightly larger power demands (John Koller - http://uk.gamespot.com/features/6196930/index.html sourced from - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_Portable_Slim_and_Lite_(PSP-3000_series) ) and that may mean different connections.

Additionally there seems to be some questions over how good the new screen actually is right now to -I'm keeping an eye one the PSP 3000 page on wikipedia, it seems to be getting alot of new content on it now

Dont use such BS remarks just say you dont want to lose your CFW.

using lies liek above will only create more misunderstanding for the new posters regarding teh divrenmces between the 3 types.
