If it was released in late 2012, I would be very pleased. I'm all for progressing graphical and faster processors so we can see more amazing games.
I wouldn't care because no matter when it comes out I'll still probably wait for a yeaar or two before buying it just so it can build up its library and work out the kinks. I don't think I've ever bought a system right when it came out because usually a few years down the line they make improvements on it. I'll just keep playing my PS3 until the time is right to upgrade
[QUOTE="shhbob"]okay, im not asking u to judge the system, im saying would you, as a consumer (onwer of a ps3) get mad or disappointed IF a playstation 4 were to come out in a few yearsi cant judge something thats not out

New consoles come out every 5 or 6 years
Why would anyone have a reaction when it happened again?
I'd be pretty ticked - I only bought my PS3 about 4 months ago, and if they came out with a PS4, game development for the PS3 would pretty much stop. If they come out with one in two or three years, that'll be fine. I usually don't buy a new system until it's been out for several years, and by that time there would be enough PS3 games to keep me occupied for a long time.
will people stop mentioning PS4. i am happy with current console. i dont want to have to buy a new console as it now costs a fortune so if they dont release a new one in the next 10 years i will be happy. JUST ENJOY THE CURRENT PS3!!!!!!

Is the PS3 your first console?
You didn't know how often they release new ones?

About every 6 years, which is why I'd be pretty ticked if the PS3 was replaced after only 3 years. And no, it's not my first console, I've had an NES, SNES, PS1, PS2 and now PS3.

Yeah, so that means next year we'll probably hear about the new console with a release in it's 5th/6th year
Consoles only last about half a decade and the PS3's time is already on the downward slope. Now this gen may last longer when it comes to a console in it's prime but even with Sony playing catchup this gen it wouldn't be surprising to hear them talk about a new console soon
sony already stated that theye projecting a ten year life span of the ps3 so call me in 7 yrs and ask then
now theres an answer i can live with. im not saying anything about a ps4 am i ? im just asking a question. now that i kno theres supposed to be a 10 year lifespan, im happy.sony already stated that theye projecting a ten year life span of the ps3 so call me in 7 yrs and ask then

there won't be another Playstation anything at least till 2016. Every PS is designed for ten years and on. Even the ps2, which will have 2 games coming out for it in 2010, which will make it an official 10 year console. Plus the PS3 is over the top with everything in it so it will outlast any 360 or Wii. So it could be a good 15 year console
I wouldn't really mind - I'd care far more for the games being developed for it. Mind you, having just purchased a PS3 little over a month ago, I'd hope to get a few years out of it before upgrading.
I would be disappointed if the PS4 was like the PS3; Sony needs to make some BIG innovation to their consoles or their gonna' die. They can't rely on the PS2's mainframe forever; they need to move in a new direction. If they go into a new direction, then I'll be glad; if they continue on what they've been doin', my last flicker of hope in them will extinguish.:(

Companies don't always stick to their word, you never know maybe in two years time Sony will shock the world with revealing a new system, but we won't know that until it happens, Sony went through a rough time with the PS3 they made a lot of mistakes with it, but are fixing them and the PS3 is doing great at the moment, all they need to do is advertise it and its games correctly and we might see them support the console as they said.sony already stated that theye projecting a ten year life span of the ps3 so call me in 7 yrs and ask then

What will disappoint me the most is not if Sony will announce the PS4 sooner than later, but if they decide to go the same direction as Nintendo.

i agree. as of right now ps3 is an amwaingly strong system, to replace it soon, or to even be working on a new system would be rediculous. HOWEVER, the next gen is enevitable, and i don;t think im ready to conform to a new system any time soon -_-'[QUOTE="kunal1092000"]

yeah id deff luv to play the future in gaming before we all die :P
I dont believe in that mumbo jumbo, i think ima be able to play games til im 60-70 years old :P
I don't think having a 10 year life cycle means they won't come out with a PS4 until 10 years after the ps3 came out, which was2006. The Ps2 came out in 2000. I think by having a "10 year life cycle", sony means they will keep making them and supporting them for 10 years, not pump out a new console every 10 years. As you can see, there were only 6 years between ps2 and ps3. I think 2012 would be a reasonable guess, considering Sony's track record.
i dunno, id be more disappointed, Ps3 is amazing. and i kno in a few years there gonna b a next gen., and im not ready to convert to anything more than ps3 Playstaton (1995-2006); note, ps2 was released five years after playstation Playstation 2 (2000-2010?); note ps3 released 6 years after ps2; only 20games supposed to be released for next year Playstation 3 (2006-2016 ?); note ps4 projected (in my opinion) to be released 6 to 8 years after release of ps3 thoughts ??LpKingi would be pissed if it comes out before 2015.. im still bitter i paid 600 and 150 when it busted.. and you know a ps4 would be close to or above the ps3 price
If PS2 was/is any indication of Sony supporting the console you have not much to fear of.
I still enjoy my PS2 games even this late into console life span. ;)

I just hope that next time Sony is more on top of things.
Anyone can see that the PS3 at the time of its original release was not ready for the market. They were forced to release an unfinished console on the market because both Nintendo and MS (who's system was even less future-proof)beat them to the shelf.
Sony was arrogant. Things are picking up now, but look how long it took. They put themselves in a deficit position from day one, based on the thought that they had an unwavering strangle-hold on the market.
Well, now they learned the hard way like Big N did. But the difference is it won't take them 3 gens to catch up.
PS4 has to be released before or at roughly the same time as their competition to remain in a firm position.
Hope they don't get caught with their pants down again.

You are correct
Having a ten year cycle does not mean it will be the only Sony console out for ten years, it means it will still be supported.
At the second half of it's span the PS4 will be around and the PS3 will get a few first party titles and then all the licensed games the PS2 got at the end of it's span
