Sony said they have a ten year plan and the PS3 isnt in a year, so why would that happen? but to answer you question i wouldnt get mad i got cake, but im just one person

The thought of it even being announced at that time would make me mad. Rumors have it that Sony are in the works of a new playstation which will be announced around that time but most are saying that its false or possibly a redesign of the Ps3. Hopefully a its a redesign. It wouldnt make sense anyways since that would defeat the purpose of the Ps3 which was designed to last for about 10 years.martialbullet

If they announced it in 2010 then it would still be another two years before they launched it (at least) which would make it a 2012 launch. That would be six years since the PS3 launched and they would continue to support it. By the year 2012 I'm sure we will want our consoles to catch up with computers again and they will need to compete with the 4th generation Xbox (the third generation will have already come out in 2009).AlienOverlord

Actually it's probably right on.  The first Xbox came out in 2001, the 360 in 2005.  Another four years after that (2009) I bet Microsoft will release another console (if they are still in the gaming business).  Technology gets better soo fast.  I don't want to be stuck with today's technology in 2013 or 2014.  No way! A PS4 in 2011 sounds right.  The PS3 was originally going to come out in 2005, then it was delayed, then delayed again.  

Three years does seems like a short lifespan since I dropped a lot of money on the ps3. I would hope the it stays current for at least 5. By then the graphics might be a little dated but I would feel is if I got my moneys worth. I also doubt the ps3 would really last ten years anyways because Microsoft and Nintendo would probably release something new before then. Just put that in perspective. That be like playing your N64 or PS1 until today.liquidgas

Yes but just because they are supporting ps3 for 10 years, doesn't mean they cant release ps4. Just like they're doing now with ps2, there are still awesome games comming out. It makes sense. more platforms means more software sales which means more money. ps2 is probably, to a certain extent subsidising the cost of the PS3

Listen, the rumor is just that, a rumor.  Dont say its stupid cause something may happen though most likely a REDESIGN.

I don't buy that argument DirtySanchez since when is it a rule that Sony has to release the PS4 when Microsoft releases there next system. I think your giving Microsoft alittle to much power. With Continued PS3 system updates, and good PS3 titles continuing to be released for the PS3. I can easily see the PS3 at-least going 3 or 4 months into the next console cycle without releasing the PS4, even if Microsoft's next system is first to the market. The 10 year plan thing is BS.  The PS3 is great but im sorry thats just ridiculous to believe that.  I dont care WHAT computer you buy, BEFORE 10 years it will be nearly obsolete.  10 years is an ETERNITY when it comes to technology. There are many reasons for this.  But consider just this one....ignore all the leaps in hardware power that will be achieved in just FIVE years...we are NOW starting with DX 10....the PS3 is compatible with DX 9.  Where do you think DX 9 will be in 10 years????

IIt is VERY likely that  in 4 - 6 years MS or Nintendo release a console with 1 GB of RAM, a CPU more powerfull than the current Cell in the PS3 (if you think that one more powerful AND cheaper cant be produced in LESS than 10 years, you are REALLY gullible) a GPU TWICE as powerfull as the ones in current consoles compatible with DX 10 (or even DX 11 for that matter), faster and wider memory bandwith, and a 64 bit architecture.  A machine like this would be capable of blowing away ANY console out on the market today.  When this happens, do you REALLY think Sony will sit there and keep selling PS3s?  When the competition will be on the next generation of gaming?  The answer of course, is a resounding no.  They will be forced to man up and try to make a console thats even better.  Which is what happened this generation.  I can guarantee you that if there was no competition, everyone would still be playing Playstation 2s for another couple years.  

So people...please...stop believing in this 10 year BS.  Its not true.  It wont ever happen.  NO COMPUTER SYSTEM WILL EVER have such a lifespan in terms of being cutting edge.  E V E R.  Within 5 years, ALL consoles out today will be a thing of the past.  To expect ANY of them to last an additional 5 years after that is foolish.  

It doesnt mean that in just 3 years it will happen.  But FULLY expect a new console in 6 years at the latest

we should remember that they only just stopped making psone's about a year ago and if that can continue to be made and bought years after it became second to the ps2. and the ps2 has still got a life in it and is still producing some great games and developers are still working on ps2 titles depite the inevitability that in the next year or so it will take second place to the ps3.  what i'm trying to say is that when the ps4 comes out it doesn't mean that your ps3 will drop dead.

there has been a 5 year gap between the psone/ps2 and ps2/ps3 launches, but i think it will be longer this tim coz the ability to update the software regularly should extend the life of the ps3 and still allow for it to be modern and up to date years after it has come out
