Just wondering because it seems silly to release only the sequel. I'm assuming that anyone with both systems has already played both games, while PS3 owners would need to pick up a 360 just to find out how the story began. I usually have no intentionsof starting a series mid-way so my interest is non-existent unless the first one is also planned for release.

Bioware said that they are including a story catch up into Mass Effect 2 so that you will understand what is going on in the story. If they are going to give you the back story then playing just the second is not going to be a big deal. Just like how some games have long intros or text explaining what is going on in the universe before you start playing.

I am, I've never played any of the games before and the devolopers are including the back-story so people who haven't played the original will understand.

I wish I never bought it for my 360 because it really isn't anything special so I definately will not be getting it for PS3...IMO it is way overated...Played through it twice(only so I could bang Miranda ;)) and never touched it again.

I might, but I'm not sure. Mass Effect 2 is $30 on Steam and will probably be even lower than that by the time ME2 comes out on the PS3. It would be hard to convince myself to go ahead and buy a $60 version of a game when a $30 version (or less!) is out right now. Hopefully ME2 will launch at like $40 or something for the PS3, but I doubt they'll do that. This is kinda like how BioShock 1 was with the 360 and they released that at $60 I think.

I'm still hoping they'll put ME1 on the PS3. It would be nice to have a character to bring over when you play it.

I'll wait for it to drop in price. I already played the original and ME2 on the other system, so I don't see the need to spend 60 bucks on a game I already played just for trophies. If they were releasing the original as well, then for sure I'd get it.

Yeah, I'm planning to, but maybe when the price drops. I've yet to buy a PS3 game at full price. I mean, I could just look up the story or watch a playthrough (DSP) of the first mass effect to catch up

Nah...I'd like to play the ME1 first, them ME2, so I'll probably pick it up for the PC sometime in the near future when the price is reasonable.

well im fairly certain they'll include a summary of the events in ME1. it would just be silly not to.

anyways, if i didn't have a pc, i would certainly get it for the ps3

I have 1 & 2 for the "other system", so no. However, if I didn't have it for the "other system" I would have to say NO as well. It would make NO SENSE to just buy the sequel for one console & not be able to play the original on the same one. I honestly don't get that at all. They are GREAT games & they were the 3rd & 4th games that I bought in July when I bought the 250gb "other system".

Still not going to help the carry over effect of having a end data save, though....

Mass Effect was the only Xbox exclusive that I was interested in after Bioshock came out so I would have thought that I would be excited by this...but ME2 doesn't seem to have lived up to the hype judging by the reactions in here and it comes at a bad time (between GT5 and Portal2) and I'm starting to build up a backlog of games so I will probably wait until I see cheap enough to make it irresistible.

i like that not only is bioware giving a story catch up, but they are making it "feel like youre really part of it." if the story mode seems to do a good job of preparing me for the sequel, ill definitely buy it. i dont have any plans on buying a 360 (i mean that in the most "lets not turn this into system wars" way possible) and my laptop wont run ME1, but i dont want to miss a great game.

I'll probably get it, it sounds interesting and I love sci-fi stuff. They're giving us an intro movie to explain what's going on, which is fine by me. I could get the first one for my PC I suppose (it's $16 at Amazon), but good grief, it's just NOT that big of a deal.

I would if i didnt already own in on the PC. Seriously, its REALLY good and dont worry too much about the plot of ME1. Although you run into most of the characters from ME1 during the game, the vast majority of the people on your ship and party are brand new characters. Just read up on the plot or i'm sure there is some good summarys on youtube.

Nope, the gameplay doesn't look appealing to me and I'm not a big sci-fi guy. The story looks to be the only highlight and I'm not playing 30 hours of so-so gameplay for a good story.

I'll buy ME2 on PS3 on the same day that ME1 is released on the PS3, no more and no less. Until that day, no.

And for anyone implying on the "feature", "movie", whatever that explains the history... I don't care for it, really, I'd want the full experience, not a second-rate, half-a***d port.

It was published by Microsoft Game Studios, so that day probably won't happen, atleast not for like 2 years or something.

Personally I think this is awesome news! I have ME1 for PC and it was one of my favorite games of all time, no kidding. I was hoping to eventually get the PC version, but this way I won't have to deal with potential performance issues.

I guess the only concern would be if you wanted to keep your existing character, but I doubt it'll make much of a difference.

You grasped what I meant quickly. Ie.: I don't mind if I get it in one, two years... or never... I won't get ME2 on the PS3 without ME1.

Played it on PC both Mass Effect 1 and 2. But on Ps3 you cannot import cause ME1 was not even ported. I heard some bonus content of Mass Effect 2 on PS3, let's hope it's good news/

I played Mass Effect 1 on the pc and while I was excited initially it quickly turned into boredom after a few hours. Not my thing, I doubt ME2 would change that.
