To all the people with newer PS3's that don't support ps2 games, would you be willing to pay for the emulation software to run them? I had a ps2 last generation, but I made the switch to the xbox and pretty much neglected many of the new games that came out for the ps2. Now my ps2 is busted, and I realize that there are many great ps2 games that I missed out on.

I know I would be willing to pay to be able to play ps2 games on my ps3, not a huge amount, but maybe around $50. I would use this mainly for games like Ico, Shadow of the Collosus, and the Metal Gear series. I realize that I could buy a ps2, but I like the elegance of having one system that can play all my games, plus having fewer cords floating around.

Now of course I would like it to be free, but if the only way we would ever have it is by paying would you?

What do others think?

If I didn't already have BC (60gb PS3), I would not pay for emulation. If I wanted to play PS2 games that bad, I would simply go buy a PS2.

I'd pay. I just got my PS3 and didn't have my PS2 long enough to get to play many of its great games.

Anything over $5, no. I have a ps2, so it's really just a matter of convenience.

Depends on the price. If it's 5 bucks then yes, but if it's 50 hell no.

I could pay right now, by buying a PS2. PS1 games already work on my PS3. Otherwise, I wouldn't pay for a firmware update on the PS3. Beside, Sony is now planning on releasing some of it's games on BlueRay *i.e. God of War 1 + 2). I'll be they'll do this for others as well. I'll save my money for those.

If they allowed you to download BC software and it was less than $100 I don't see why anybody would mind. I could never see them charging the same amount of money as a PS2 for BC though since there is no physical product. The very most I would expect them to charge would be $50. I would probably only buy it if it was $25 or less though.

Yes. And I did - when I bought my 80GB MGS4 bundle it was a $50 premium over the newest 80GB model.

Yes, I probably would. After the big God of War Collection announcement last week though I would rather see my most favorite PS2 games brought to the PS3 in the same vein as GoW 1 and 2 than see a b/c update. I'd rather play FFX, XII, MGS1-3, Kingdom Hearts 1-2, and more in 720p with trophies than play my entire PS2 collection on my PS3 with no new features. And yes, I would be willing to re-buy all those games if PS3 compatible versions of them were made.

I'd definately pay for flawless BC. My PS2 is still working, but it's been struggling for a while and won't read a couple of my game discs. (Persona 3, nooooo!!)

I'd rather have all my options in one console, rather than buy another PS2.

I wouldn't pay for BC.. and as for paying $50.. you might as well just pick up a PS2. I have a 60gig PS3, i wanted to get a few PS2 games but haven't been able too.. there are way to many games on PS3 keeping me entertained. I wouldn't pay for a feature i dont use.. although it is nice to have.

No. I probably wouldn't pay for backwards compatability on my ps3, because the reason i wanted the Playstation 3 in the first place was too play ps3 games. If i really wanted to play some of the ps2 games i would go out and buy myself a ps2, as they are pretty cheap nowadays.

Not going to pay for something I already have...

With that said, if I didn't have BC I'd pay for it I guess if it were significantly cheaper than buying a PS2 system.

I chose the 350GBP 60GB over the 300GBP 40GB back in 2007 so yes. I've barely played PS2 games on it though.

Probably not. As much as I would love to be able to play FFX again I wouldn't pay a ridculious sum of money to support it ...

I wouldn't even buy one that didn't have BC support to begin with. I am glad I spent the money and bought the 60 gig system.

Yuck. No. My "newer" 80Gig model that I got last Xmas already costed $400 so it wouldn't be worth it. Plus I already have my old fat PS2 so when I'm feeling like playing an old game that's all I have to do.

I did. I bought a 60G model for the BC, but then it YLoD and Sonywanted £145 to repair it and I decided that BC wasn't worth that much.

By the way, all you 60 gig owners are just in a way broadcasting that you, yes YOU, have backwards compatability. thats great and all, but that's not answering the question. Stop acting all like "ummm why would i. i ALREADY have it!". No ones forcing you to participate in this thread so don't sound annoyed in your answer. A simple "yes" or "no" and maybe how much or why not (considering you were one who didn't already have it). Understand?

OK well its seems I've gotten a wide variety of answers.

Of course you guys that already have it with the older versions of the ps3 wouldn't pay, I thought it was obvious that this was a question that would be directed towards the people who owned a PS3 that lacked the feature:?

Yes I do realize I could buy a PS2, the thing is I dont want to, I already have a sleak PS3 that displays rather nicely on my HDTV through the HDMI port, I don't belive the PS2 has that capability.

As I already said, there are some real classic games I missed out on, the GOW series (I realize that they are making a new ps3 version), the Kindom Hearts series, MGS 2 and 3, Ico, Shadow of the Collossus. If all of these were to be remade for for the PS3 that would be great, but I doubt that will happen.

I also noticed that my version of the PS3 has the ability to make virtual PS2 memory cards, so I would think that sony is still debating a Backwards Combatability update or else that feature would have been taken away by now.

Anyways, I hope one comes, I hope its free, but if I had to I would pay. I definitely wouldn't pay more than the price of a PS2 though.

Only if it is fully BC and plays PS2 games flawlessly and is less than a PS2 console.

No, the PS2 would play the games 10X better than software emulation.
