FFXIII I know a lot will come in and say I want FF VII remake or even both but really I feel there is a good chance that FF XIII will be something special even though I fell FF XIII versus will be more interesting than FF XIIIStar650Yeah, I know it will be a force to be reckoned with, but there is still a chance it may disappoint us greatly. I know how much I loved FFVII. I put in over 1000 hours on that game in two playthroughs. I'd love to have a crack at it with this gen's technology. Id definately sacrifive FF13 for it. And I, too, am much more intersted in Versus13.
If I wanted to play FFVII, then I'd play the copy I have right here. hazelnutmanNot if you had it for the PS3. :P

Tried and true? FF7 wasn't all that great. Most of the people "like it", was due to the mainstream exposure it had back in '97. It was a catch phrase. It's no different today because of one little tech demo. Because people still talk like 7 was the only Final Fantasy game to exist. Because nobody whines and complains about better games that didn't get as much hype and marketing as FF7 did. Most people are just purely reactionary with the name "FF7" without an actual reason why.
Just like when movie stars get asked if they play video games. You get the same "I play Madden" or "I played PacMan or Super Mario in 1985!"
I'd rather have FFXIII, for FFVII I'm happy with the re-release on the PSN when ever it hits stateside. We get enough remakes on the PSP and DS as far as I'm concerend.

Na, I have to totally disagree with you there. People think FF7 was the only FF to exist, because to a lot of them it was. This is the RPG that made fans out of people who were never actually into RPGs. It revolutionized the way RPGs were made and played. It has (IMO) the best story ever told in a video game with some of the strongest and most diverse group of characters ever. Sure, it was mainstream, but that has a lot to do with how EPIC a game it was. And the proof is in the pudding, man. Its still to this day the highest selling FF. It has tons of goofy spin-offs and memorabilia. It has an awesome movie attached to it.... FFVII is still to this day a force to be reckoned with when RPGs are mentioned. Sure, true RPG fans may beg to differ because they like RPGs for different reasons and appreciate them for different reasons. But the fact that FF7 captured an audience far surpassing those core RPG fans says a lot by itself. ;)[QUOTE="Denji"][QUOTE="Nephilim83"]

But the fact that FF7 captured an audience far surpassing those core RPG fans says a lot by itself. ;)Well at the time, it was because it had FMVs, polygons and little battle animations. But I felt the story was lacking and very slow during the middle of the game. It just dragged on and on with fillers. I honestly felt FF8 had the better story. As well as FF6. But I honestly do feel, if other FF games got as much hype as FF7 did, I don't think FF7 would be such a big issue with most people. If FF9 had a bigger marketing campaing than FF7, we would be having this conversation over FF9 and chances are, we would've seen an FF9 Tech Demo.
But then again, because of the hype, Cloud, Sephiroth and Tifa became RPG pop culture icons. We're only seeing spin offs and got Advent Children because FF7 is a popular cash cow due in part of the hype it got. Because people see "FF7" and they dive for it lol Even I was itching for Advent Children before it came out :P
IX [9] > X [10] > XII [12] > XIII [13] (prediction.) > VIII [8] > VI [6] > Parking Tickets > VII [7] > HIV+ > Finding out your girlfriend is cheating on you with a woman.
Only thing I didn't like about FF9 was the completely unrelated final boss lol
After you took on Kuja it was "Oh hey y'all. Welcome to Hell...or Heaven whatever it is. I can't tell myself. But anyways, my name is Necro. I'm your final boss and I'm here to destroy you. Isn't that cool?"

Well, obviously its a matter of preference. I played and still own every FF game since VII and VII is still my favorite to this day. I liked the effed up story, the gothic/industrial settings. I loved the characters. And I really enjoyed the battle system and the use of materia. I thought it was the most well crafted game of them all. It also had tons of different hidden places and items to discover. There was so much going on in that game its ridiculous. I really never enjoyed the rest of them like I enjoyed that one. FF8 is definately my least favorite. I just wasn't feeling it. The story was not very coherent, and the battle system was... not very good. I liked the gun-blades. And I liked Squall and Rinoa's little love story in space. Other than that I just couldn't get into it. And I didn't like X or XII all that much, either. Though, ten did have the next best leveling/ability system. FF9 was awesome. Except for that stupid last boss, like you said. Anyway, I disagree with all you've said and don't really feel like explaining why, because it all really boils down to the fact that FF7 was just really more my thing. As is the case for countless others.FFVII is always being brought up by nostalgia-plagued junkies that drool over its resurrection from the grave. It isn't anywhere near the greatest FF ever made. I easily find FFIX to be the best PS1 FF, easily surpassing FFVII. It is only memorable because the game was the first FF to move towards 3D, and as such, had such a significant impact on the FF franchise. FFXIII for me. I embrace change towards a new direction. jRPGs need to evolve - we no longer need random encounters, transitional battle scenes, and a simple turn-based combat system which exchanges blows between the 2 sides. Console limitations from the past generations forced developers to design the battle system in such manner : FXII was an immense step in the right direction, completely removing random encounters and placing the battles within the environment itself. With the PS3 and 360's higher bandwidth and memory, as well as disk space. random encounters and transitional battle scenes shouldn't even be a factor in the game's design. I find it a hindrance that drags down what jRPGs could demonstrate in the HD gaming era.BrainhunterFirst of all I'm not a drooling, nostalgia plague junkie. There's no need to be insulting. Second, saw this picture on the net and remembered the tech demo. I thought that would be cool to play FF7 in HD. Just like I think it'd be awesome to experience Shadow of the Colossus in HD. I also realized how little I care anymore that they are making FFXIII. I'm much more interested in Versus. But overall, I can do without either. If I had to choose I'd like to replay the one game I've enjoyed more than any other. But whatever. If its not remade tha's cool. Lord knows I've played it enough in my lifetime. I just thought it would be amazing to see. And its not only memorable because it was the first in 3D. All the ones after that were in 3D and nobody talks about them like they do FF7. FFX was the first on the PS2. Doesn't change the fact that it wasn't all that great to me. FF7 is memorable for its awesome characters and story. Why do you think it got its own movie? FFVII FTW!! :P
well ppl claimed that ff7 is the best ff. my cuzin told me it wasnt. he said that ppl liked it only because it was the first in 3d. & as explained on x-play, on g4tv, it just sucks. but i cant let anyone sway my decision on any game that could possibly be great. & plus since ff13 is goin to 360 also, im gonna have to go with ff7.FLYEboi50Wha? First, you poorly judge a game you've never played then you choose it based on the fact that the other is going multiplat?? Cool. Welcome to the team.
All the FFs are epic. So for me it just comes down to what characters I thought were better. Cloud and Sephiroth are cool and all but I think Zidane and Vivi were amazing as well. I also liked the battle system for IX which was similar to VI because it gave the characters strengths in what they should of been. Having Ashe use a huge gun was sexy for sure but I felt I wanted her to be stronger in the way of the sword arts.
Oh, so I prefer to have XIII. Lightning is gonna be so awesome.
New series games are almost always going to be better than a remake. Not saying that remakes arent bad, just think of it this way: Would you rather want to play the same over again with better effects or an all new epic game?angusclone2I dunno. I just think the last few games were... Meh. So, I'm setting my expectations low for anything that follows.
Only thing I didn't like about FF9 was the completely unrelated final boss lol DenjiNothing wrong with battling Fate! (I think that was the boss, hell Fate has been battled in a few other RPG's iirc) edit: err Necron, same thing right? ;p
13. even though im a fan of 7. i thought it was the best in the series. all these spinoffs and even that movie made me tired of that story... the game should have been left alone after the o.g. ff7. if all these crappy spinoffs never happened i'd say remake 7 in a heartbeat2DFighter84Yeah, I can agree with you there. Dierge of Cerberus was a horrible game. That was a terrible ploy for fast cash. Crisis Core would have been better were it on PS3 and had someone else right it. I hated Genesis, Angeal, and all that BS. Zack was cool, but the rest of the story was.... meh. Its certainly not something I would have expected to see tied to one of the greatest video game stories of all time. I liked the movie kinda, but I'd much rather it were based strickly on the original game. Again, it didn't live up to my expectations for something tied to FFVII. I'd still like a remake of FFVII, though. I'd love to see the Omni-Slash or Knights or the Round summon in full on HD..... I'd wet myself.....
Oh, thank the lord I'm not the only one! I felt so alone... So... so.... ........ .... alone..... :(FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE PLZ I WANT IT AND I WANT IT NOW!!!

If it had been anything but a Final Fantasy it would have been considered well above average. As it was DoC did not quite fit the FF mold and was underrated. It was a slightly above average shooter and did not fit the series. I
i would rather play aremake of FF9 then FF7 but i'll always prefer a brand new game then a remake of a game that i still own and beat to death already
Give me XIII.
I'd rather have a proper re-make of VIII over VII or even one of the previous FF installments before VII :)
Gawd, I hope you're right.FF7 is indeed an epic game. However, I'm sure Square Enix will produced a even better FF game after spending 3 years on it already.
Takuzi
FFXIII for me. As much as I enjoyed FFVII, I'll be content with the re-release it gets years from now.
