I've looked it up earlier at ps3 modding sites... it was mostly during the whole YLOD fiasco...but honestly, after having my ps3 for a year I don't think it needs water cooling at all. seeing someone with that mode however is sick but in terms of practicality for me...its unnecessary.

I haven't been bothered by the PS3 fan noise at all. Its generally very quiet. Occasionally when the fans bump up a notch I can hear them, but its not worth modding imo.

i agree. i've left my ps3 on for 2 days by accident in a closed area and it was fine, just a little warm.

I might eventually if would help to extend the lifetime of my PS3. I got my PS3 on launch day and it still works great, but occasionally when I'm playing for a couple of hours or so, the fans will run high and get loud for 5 or 10 minutes. Since 60GBs are hard to come by, I want to make sure my PS3 lasts as long as possible.

Hey, I've got an 80gb so I don't have to worry about the YLOD for another 6 months, but could you teach me to make my PS3 glow?

It'd be so cool.

glow in what way?

You know, neon. Like import tuner in my living room, glow.

Do they do that for PS3s? Because I've done it with the shoulder buttons on my PSP.

you could probably line up a cold cathode tube and solder it to the parts you want to glow...

Thats what I was going to say. Water cooling is an excellent idea for a high end PC or something that actually need's the additional cooling. I'm only opposed to it on the PS3 because it isn't necessary at all.

My PS3 is never loud. I only hear the fans very faintly every now and then. And I don't have to worry about the heatsinks being hideous because... well... I never see them! And, honestly, my PS3 stays super cool even in the entertainment center. So, I guess those hideous fan and heatsinks are doing a pretty good job. ........... But if the heat were a major problem I'd definately look into this. I've already water-cooled my PC (that pair of HD4870x2s get freakin HOT!!!). Any body who knows about PC gaming will tell you that liquid is the ultimate cooling solution. So good looking out, dude. ;)

Now this is true. It could actually EXTEND the life of your PS3. Now that makes it something worth my consideration. How's the price look on this thing. Please don't make me **** myself! (i know how expensive water-coolers can be) LoL

You could just drop it in a fishtank full of mineral oil. It'd still run, but I think it'd have trouble reading Blu-Rays. lol

Its been done for ages now, actually back at my university we are experimenting to get the most out of a pc by overclocking both the cpu and the gpu, weve tried with water and liquid nitrogen and one unstable chemical im not supposed to mention till the researchs done. Any ways nitrogen and this chemical are way to dangerous not only "hardware running wise" these things also present big risks if they ever malfunction. All I can say is that we have some pretty dar.n fast cpus down there at my university

You could use liquid nitrogen and wait till it is settled then blast it with liquid helium to get it to -269 degs celcs to get any processor (without the cold bug) to over clock really well.

Ouch. It amazes me how much they charge for this stuff! I can probably run the cooling system with a seperate power supply and get longer hoses and just tie in to my PCs resevoir (PS3 and PC are less than a couple feet from eachother. That'd save me a bundle. I could even tie my "other" console into(by "other" I mean the one that really makes all the noise!)it (may have to get a bigger resevoir, but none of theses systems are on at the same time) Do you think that'd be a dumb or no?

If the developers actually cared and coded their games better, you wouldn't need something like this to reach bearable frame rates.Oh wait you can't because you can't overclock a PS3.

It's friggin 2009 people, go 100 fps or go bankrupt. Seriously.

Yeah, If I had to pick that's where I'd put it. If anything to atleast just kill that freakin' fan noise.
