When people are willing to pay for costumes that would ordinarily be unlocked by beating the game, you can't be surprised that Capcom decided to go ahead and charge for a multiplayer mode.

Not really stupid. Some people are hardcore Street Fighter fans and would pay that. Not everyone that plays Resident Evil 5 plays SF4 and vise versa. You guys aren't looking at it like that. You may want to argue but, in SF case we are getting an Arcade Perfect game plus NEW CHARECTERS that weren't their before console. If they wanna charge for costumes let em ;p
I think its a rip off and ridiculous... They're just giving us a bare game and charging for all the what we used to call unlockables. DLC is a big mistake and hurting gamers who don't have money to throw around for it.
Unreal Tournament 3, Midnight Club LA, and Burnout Paradise are primes examples of FREE DLC done right. Although the amount of DLC that Burnout is selling also raises an eyebrow... knicknut17true but with the amount of free stuff burnout has given out i think there entitled to make a little cash.

From a gamer's standpoint, it's more fun to unlock costumes that to just buy them.
But from an industry standpoint, ridiculous DLC may end up being good for the consumers. Games, when sold in physical format, most profits goes to the publishers and retailers. Since marketing is expensive, so is brick and mortar leases at prime locations. Developers who worked hard to deliver, don't get much. DLC cuts the medium handler by a lot.
If publishers start shifting more marketing to the web and PSN, and DLC eliminates the retail cut, developers would be willing to pump more resources into a $60 game.
In the case of SFIV, I think they should have left the new characters as DLC, and costumes for players to unlock.
