So my copy of Uncharted has basically spontaneously cracked... It worked fine in my buddy's PS3, was always handled with care... I put it in my PS3 last night, played through about the first 5 chapters, and quit. I started up my PS3 today and it wouldn't pick up the disc. I thought that I had maybe taken it out, but the thing was in there. I re-inserted it, didn't pick it up. Upon closer examination, I've found a single crack in the center of the disc... I can see that it extends just barely into the readable area of the disc... There was definitely nothing wrong with the game or the disc last night, and I didn't ever remove the thing from my PS3 before it stopped working...

Is there anything I can do here? I've been a gamer most of my life and I have never damaged one of my own discs... This crack was entirely spontaneous and I'm feeling a little angry about it... I've done nothing wrong, yet I could have a dead copy of Uncharted and a $60 hole in my wallet because of this thing... I read in the back of the manual that SCEA will cover defects within 90 days, but I'm having a hard time believing they'll replace the disc...

This was most certainly some sort of defect... I'd hate to think it was my PS3 that caused it, but I didn't touch the disc once between the time it worked and the time it stopped working... The only thing I can think of is something happened in the drive... Pretty upset right now.

That's pretty much what I'm left with, I guess. I've never had this happen to me and I'd be lying if I said I weren't feeling distressed about it. I'll call the number tomorrow and hopefully get a nice customer service rep... I can't believe I might be stuck with a $60 coaster...

i always take my games out for i quit for the night just incase. only thing i can add to what dholmes19 said was how long ago did u buy it? if u still have the reciept, check and see how many days u have left to see if u can return it and get a new copy. most places r like 7 business days. if there is a defect then u can exchange it for a new one.

Yeah I bought it at Gamestop, but that was way back in early December. My only hope is to get the disc replaced by SCEA. If that doesn't work I'll have to try and sell it back to Gamestop without them seeing the crack...

well then yeah. n e chance u have the receipt. if the game becomes damaged and cant perform its function and u didnt do n e thing to cause that (like throwing it or whatever) u should still b able to return it for a new one of the exact same game. the 7 business days is just like if u played a lil, didnt like it, then wanted to turn in back in for most of your money or is u havent opened it at all and realized u got the wrong game (say u were buying it for sumone) and u should be good. but yeah try SCEA and if that dont work give what i said a shot.

Yeah actually I just stumbled onto my receipt in my car, so I've got that. I'll give the return at GS a shot, but I don't think it'll work. My best be is probably with SCEA... Talk about frustrating.

And I sure hope my PS3 isn't going to start eating discs or something. I was shocked to see a crack in the disc when I ejected it.

Well i think I'm officially effed... I called SCEA and they refused to replace the disc. Now the only options I'm left with are either returning it to Gamestop or selling it back to them, neither of which I have any confidence in working.

I've never had anything like this happen... Talk about infuriating. frustrating, upsetting. I just feel so helpless. I didn't do anything wrong... I take complete and total care of my games, and this happens and there's nothing I can do.

The exact same thing happened to my original copy of R6:vegas less than a month after I had purchased it. It was in the exact same spot you mention. Luckily I had the receipt from Best Buy and they have a 30 day return policy for defects. It was the 29th day when I discovered it and just barely lucked out and got another copy. I think this is caused by pulling the game out of the case or pressing it back in. Those little clips that hold this disc in caused it I think. Ever since I've been extra careful pulling out games and putting them away. I was just as shocked as you. Hopefully you can get a replacement.

Selling it back to GS is not a good idea. I'm pretty sure they photo ID you and make you sign a recipt or something, just so that if the game doesn't work, they can contact you and make you lose your store credit + give you your damaged game back.

Walmart is always a safe bet. I've heard stories of them taking back vacuums from the early 70's.

Im not laughing at you, cause thats pretty serious, considering this game is sick. But Im laughing at the way you said it. Atleast use it for only expensive beer and maybe chilled wine/champaign

That's not a bad suggestion... I could try that, I suppose. I've got nothing to lose, right?

And Ganon, is that for real? I've never heard of that, but if that's the case I guess selling back isn't a good idea.

Did you by any chance hit the system or moved the system when it was reading the disc? I'm not too sure but i heard somewhere that if you move a system when it's reading the disc you're disc could get scratched.

If you go to Walmart and say your forgot the receipt and you bought it there a week ago, they will exchane it for the exact same product (new in wrapper)

dead serious, I did this for 2 games (SSBM and F-Zero GX) and they exchanged it for new ones, funny thing is that I did this when I bought bot games omre than a year ago at a different store

My advice, don't ever leave something in your PS3 overnight, or whenever. Always take the games/movies/storage devices out when you're not using it. Why? Well i think of it as a safety reason.

I suppose... It just doesn't make much sense to me. Nothing should happen to a disc that is just sitting in a PS3 like that. There's no reason for it to get damaged when the system is off. I honestly think it may have happened the night before when I was playing it... it cracked somehow and that crack expanded over night or something.

I'll try the Walmart route... say it was a gift or something.

I am utterly shocked that SCEA will not replace the disc for you. Did they say its because its too old, or they just dont do that? they should replace the disc so long as you send the old one.

They said they'd never heard of a case where the disc cracked like that, which is complete bs considering the cases I've read online since this happened to me. PLUS there's a first time for a lot of things, and if they haven't heard of a case before they certainly have now. I may try calling again and hope I get a better customer service rep... This b*tch kept telling me all I could do was buy a new game, and I kept telling her how ridiculous that was. If I don't get a better rep I'll ask for a supervisor.

this sounds like a good plan...

I wonder if they'll let you return it if you say that the game came like that out of the case ;)

Pretty much the same thing happened to me, but on 2 discs: Ok.. I"ve been playing FO3 for about 2 months now. Basically it's just stayed in my PS3 95% of the time. My brother was down yesterday, so we wanted to play some Resistance 2, being multi-player and all. We played it for a few hours Saturday, and I left it in the ps3. Today I played about 1-2 hours of R2 earlier today. I set back down after 3-4 away from the system to play some R2 again. Well R2 wouldn't load at all, the icon wouldn't even appear on the XMD. So I put in FO3 to test it, and it wouldn't play either. I tested a few other games and they all loaded just fine. I started to look at both R2 and FO3 discs and both of them are cracked. The crack is small (.5 in) coming straight out from the center of the disc. i understand that the cases for these games are sometimes tight and it is possible to crack a disc removing it from the case. But if that's the case how did I play R2 just a few hours ago, if it was indeed cracked? It is possible that my PS3 cracked these discs? I cannot find any evidence on the net about a PS3 cracking discs, but I have found similar stories of "how did this get here" cracks of the same size and shape on other PS3 blu-ray discs. I bought FO3 used, and R2 is more than 90 days old, so I'm left with doing some shady stuff at Wal-mart to get a new copy. I'm more worried about the possibilities of my PS3 cracking any future games I play. If these games did indeed crack from teh case, then how did I just play R2 over 2 days with this crack in it?

Awww, that's terrible. :( I'd say just try to trade it in at GameStop and then just get something else and buy Uncharted at a different store.

Exact same thing with me, Fallout was crack-free...played for 2 or 3 hours just fine. Leave for the weekend, come back and turn on the ps3. No load, tiny little crack on the inside circle of the disc. Are they using cheap material to make these blu-rays? Ps3 games are the only kind I've heard of having this problem.

i assume that is unfortunately a user problem... my cousin plays fifa series religiously, it is more or less the only game he plays and he has 3 copies of fifa 09, two copies of fifa 10 and so far only one copy of fifa 11, the problem is how he takes out the disc out of its case, he sometimes does not press the middle part for the disc to pop out, but pulls it out by holding it at the sides of the disc, which causes both tension and compression in the middle ring, which ends up in minor cracks... at least that's what i observed... always, but always take out you discs from their cases by simply pushing in the middle of the case, making the discs pop out without using any force on their outer sides...

unlucky man, i heard of this problem a while back from a girl in a game shop i was buying something in. apparently its not that common and happens mainly with 60gbs. The shops downright will refuse to replace it which is stupid.

There aren't a lot of options here. In fact I think they've all been covered. Worst case scenario you bite the bullet on this one and trade it in to GameStop for a fraction of what you spent. I don't have a clue why the disc would just spontaneously crack because I leave games in my PS3 all the time and never once have I had an issue. *Knock on wood*

u have to be really careful when pushing the disk in the case and taking it out. i notice a lot of people normally just pull the disk out and snap it back in without even pressing the circle plastic in the middle. this is what causes that crack in the middle of your disk.
