The original didn't deserve a 9, 8 seems good though. It got 7.9 while the other one got 9.0

He mentions why in the review which are probably valid points. Think is you cant be mad at IGN for the bad review you should be pissed at the game developer for half assing the ps3 version. This is why any 3rd party titles that come out im going to either rent it or check several reviews cause these 3rd party titles cant seem to do things right on the PS3. except maybe for oblivion and stuff.fuman3Yea the oblivion crew did an excellent job on porting the game over to the PS3..... still i wonder how much time these developers need to get the hang of the PS3 hardware. I believe.. only Japanese developers and first party understand the PS3 potential hardware.
I hope not man, I really looking forward to R6V.This game does indeed deserve this score, Online is not something to be impressed of. I have the game, so I would know.
Other problems : Framerate, jaggy graphics, not the same as previous installments, etc.
Watch out, R6V may get the same treatment as well.

They better not kill R6V or else, Ubisoft will have failed me for the last time.
most third party developers are really struggling with the ps3 hardware (with the exception of Bethesda and maybe whoever made FNR3). hopefully the PlayStation Edge tools will help them.rahzel54
Which indicates is the sloppy developers and not the PS3, if two games can come out equal or better then the original, well someone knows what they're doing and someone doesn't.

true. however, the ps3 hardware is new and different. this just goes to show that some developers are more skilled than others. but we shouldn't be so hard on the third-party developers that ARE struggling, considering if in fact they are doing their best. i've said this many times here, but developers will learn the hardware soon enough, and the new tools are a start. this is why we will see great evolution in ps3 games, visually, in the later years. the 360 is closer to hitting its ceiling than the ps3 is.honestly the first time I played splinter cell on a ps2 port it felt like a very bad, a very cheesy, and very limited MGS so I never picked one up ever since. MGS is the only stealth/espionage type games for me..... :D
but to the ppl that like Splinter Cell power too ya!

So true. read the review.

Splinter Cell is much.. much more better then MGS (stealth wise). The whole game is centered around evading enemies.honestly the first time I played splinter cell on a ps2 port it felt like a very bad, a very cheesy, and very limited MGS so I never picked one up ever since. Double Agent is optimized for 360 architecture which is why it doesn't run as great on the ps3. It's like on a PC running Oblivion with an ATI or Nvidia card. The game will work with either card but each card will run the game differently in terms of framerate and image quality. Take Devil May Cry which was a PS exclusive until recently. More than likely it will run better on the ps3 than the 360. Everyone is quick to blame stuff on lazy developers but the truth is some games will play better on 360 and some will play better on ps3. This isnt the first or the last time this will happen this generation so people just need to accept it...
I wonder if all multiplats that don't install several GBs of data are going to suffer, or if the issue is just limited to Ubisoft.donalbaneinstalling to the HDD only helps with loading time. it has nothing to do with textures, framerates, or online modes. And loading times was not mentioned as a problem. I have the 360 version and the loading times are horrible. I don't know how the PS3s version's loading times are. I think it is limited to the third party developers who aren't as knowledgeable as other developers. one possible reason for the score difference between the two versions is that they were reviewed by two different people. The guy that wrote the 360 review stated that the online multiplayer was fun and gave that category a 9.0. The PS3 has the same multiplayer(including 2 extra maps), and the PS3 reviewer said it wasn't fun and gave that category a 6.5.
its funny how gamespot has rated every game for the ps3 so low only thing they rated high was oblivion and they gave it .1 less then the xbox 360 i just dont think gamespot likes the ps3 but meh i could be wrong.georgep001this review is from IGN.
what you have described is the result from lazy developing. When a game is designed for a certain architecture and then ported, it should be designed for the new architecture. Lazy developing means that the developers didn't do much to make the game run correctly after being ported.Double Agent is optimized for 360 architecture which is why it doesn't run as great on the ps3. The funny thing is Ubisoft is one of the top 3 biggest third party game companies. You would think they would have the resources to hire competent programmers that can figure out the PS3 and make better ports....

Look at EA. It's painful.

Yeah, I guess there's a reason why these companies are big and rich. They like to take shortcuts and make the game just good enough. All they're interested in is making as much money as possible with the least effort as possible and it shows.Â

I allude to this to, not many ppl recall that the Cell is essentially 2 architectures on 1 chip! Basically a PC processor (x86 IBM POWERPC core "the PPE") backed by 8 SPE's for high floating point performance (same ALU processors found in GPU's) so essentially the Cell is a CPU/GPU hybrid (PPE/SPE) with most processing being STREAMED between the 7 SPE's such as game data while the PPE handles minor performance issues like networking, sound, disc reading, input/output devices!
If a game was dev'd to run a high amount of processing on an x86 core processor in "out of order" instruction sets then the PS3 would perform much slower as stated by IBM when they said the Cell is lacking in GEBERAL PROCESSING performance, something both the PC and 360 are better at handling!
I think with Oblivion Bethseda had way more time then Ubi to re-write the engine to work more on the SPE's and not the PPE!
Further more this brings me back to my bold statement (STREAMED),... Even though many believe all systems to be the same or equal they are in fact not b'cuz the PC and 360 are examples of PARALLELEprocessing! Example: Dual core or tri (PC & 360) multi thread ect, in either the PC or 360 there multi core/threaded games would essentially "draw" a scene with say the 1st core drawing the top 1/3rd, the 2nd core drawing the mid 2/3rds, and the third core drawing the bottom 3/3rdsof a picture to complete a scene (which is good for GP but slows perfrmance when games get more advanced)
In the PS3 (stream processing) 1 core would draw the actual picture, the 2nd core would draw the shading, and the 3rd core the coloring ect until the scene is finished! So even though the PS3, 360, and PC have multi cores that handle multi threads itz the way in which a multi port game is dev'd to be written to those cores/threads that will determine itz performance!
In all, this old form of dual core/thread processing is enefficient not cuz imma Sony fan but take this into consideration! SLI, when you get SLI in a PC each GFX card handles 50% of the scene on screen (that synchronized parallele processing) even though it smooths out framerates at high resolutions the actual performance increse of a 2nd card only adds like 15%-20% performance instead of a 50%-100%. While with th emore advanced stream processing the higher you push the limit the more the processors try to balance the load keeping higher framerate regardless of the increased instruction load (that PS3 duck video with the FPS barely dropping or the one with the fish)
So yeah itz gonna take effort and time for devs to figure out how to make the best of deving next gen but the PS3 without a doubt will carry on longer with less a performance hit when advanced coding begins to take off!Â
