WTF! IS my system BRICKED?!

I tried updating my PS3 to 1.82 so that I could watch the new MGS4 trailer. I downloaded the update. I then had to install it, and I get to the screen where it says "Connect the controller using a USB cable, and press the PS button." Well, I've connectred four different USB cables and it won't connect to my system. The controller lights flash about 10 times and then nothing happens. I've also tried disconnecting the controller and plugging the USB cable to all four slots. What's more, I can't shut it down. When I hold the power button for ten seconds or hit the main power on the back and turn it back on it just brings me to the same screen. What do I do? PLEASE HELP!!!!

this happened to me before i was worried aswell all you have to do is take a pin or your mother's ear ring and take the part that sticks out and press the reset button on the back of the sixaxis. ir worked for me post id it does for you.KEM92

Thank you guys so much for all of your help and I am sorry I confused you wit the 1.83 thing. I plugged in the controller, turned the console on to get it to the "Connect the controller using a USB cable, and press the PS button" screen, and tunred the controller on and reset it before turning it on again, after which it connected and I am currently updating! Thanks so much, guys. I've said it before and I will say it again, Gamespot has the most helpful, comapssionate, and courteous gamers that the internet has to offer. Thanks so much! Phew! Screw that stressful day of thinking I had a $600 brick!

I just plugged in the controller and pressed the little reset button on the back of the controller with a pin.
