there are loads of 60gb in stock for the coming months when they are gone the 80gb steps in without mtorstorm and will cost $499
theystopped production ofthe 60gb because of the added emotion engine inside the box that cost sony tons of money..
you can choose buy a ps3 now for 499 now and have 20gb less or wait a couple months and buy a ps3 for 499 with 20gb more

Are you serious about the 80 gig going to $500?
The ps3 has been 600 for the past what 8 months and you're still talking about this?

I don't know if you have heard, but recently the PS3 got a price drop to $500. That is what triggered me to buy one.

i think i am because the 80gb is alot cheaper to make then the 60gb
besides ps3 sales have been sky rocketing after teh pricedrop you really think sony will say wait no we dont wanna sell systems lets increase price to 600 again..
it doesnt make sense does it to you ?
First off, I am not a fanboy. I love games in general, could care less what console I'm playing it on. Ok, so I finally decide to purchase a PS3 after I heard of the price drop, now I hear that they won't be making that model anymore and only focusing on the 80 gig. WTF! Why do we need all that! I could have settled on a $400 10 gig as long as it had the chrome and Wi-Fi! I will never ever use that much space. I still have tons of space on my 20 gig 360 and I play a LOT of games, I rent from Gamefly. (Rates starting as low as $8.99 a month ;) ) And the PS3 doesn't even have a video download service does it? Even if it did, I could care less about that really. My point is that Sony doesn't need to tack on that extra space, just so that we are forced to pay that redicuosly high price. Sorry for the rant and the advertising, but I am an angry man. Does anybody that read that wall of text feel the same way?omfg_its_dally

ok If you can buy a PS3 now or even within the next few months then the price drop stuff shouldn't matter, and remember the 80 gig price is a bundle so once the 60 gig runs out chances are the bundle will be dropped and you'll have a $499 80 gig (its my theory, but its pretty sound if you think about it). So the reason for the 80 gig price is most likely just to push the 60 gig even harder so they don't have to worry about them rotting on shelves. The reason for the increase in space is due to the fact that they plan on a VOD service once home launches and there are a lot of downloadable games on the way.

Well I won't have the extra cash till around Christmas time anyway, and if what you say is true then I pat Sony on the back. This is even better than just dropping the 60 gigs price then. I still could do without all the extra space, but oh well.

GTFO ... its not 80 gigs and cheaper...
dont like it...leave dumba$$
I can't see your problem. 60 Gig PS3 has been $599, you didn't want one. Now it's $499, you don't have the cash, that's really your problem. When you get the cash and in case all the 60 Gigs are gone, it's a 80 Gig with a game for $599 again.
So when you didn't want the 60 Gig for $599 last year, how is the same deal with extra space and a game less reason?
I don't understand... You're upset.. why?
I'll tell you.
You can't find a store with the 60GB in stock?
No, actually they are collecting dust around all the stores in my area.
You feel Sony ripped you off?
No, I havent bought anything from sony since the PS2 when it launched and it is still running good. So I'm happy about that.
You already bought a PS3, but are upset they are canceling the version you have?
No, unfortunatley I do not own a PS3 yet. Haven't really had reason to, untill I saw some of the cool games comming out and I'd also like to complete my next gen collection.
You are upset because they are going to cancel the 60GB (in which case just go get one now)
Yes, I believe that was the reason.
You ... are just angry and needed somewhere to vent?
No, not really in particular.
and Yes, Sony does have a movie download service in the works from what I understand. I can't link you, but theres a video on gamespot here where ricardo interviews someone after the conference
That is cool, that could explain the 80 gig model. I'm not really into the whole video service, but some people are, I guess.
Anyway, you are a very confusing individual.
Sorry I came across like that.

I never really, didn't want it. I was just more or less indifferent about it. I just didn't really want to pay that much for it. $500 is a little more reasonable. I just got a nw $600 guitar the other day, so I really don't have the money at the moment.
so why are you upset about it if they cancel the 60gb production... ?legalize3
I'm not mad about the 60 gig, I'm mad about the extra 100 bucks.
Dude i can assure you.... 60gig is no where near enough....
They should have made a 250 gig vrsn in the first place.
Most games take up to 5 gig of installation.....soon we will be seeing 10 gig installed games.
Not to mention 500mb saves, videos (HD), and music (soon it'll be uncompressed).
Trust me....
i've got a 60gig and 10 gigs left......it's frustrating.
Calm down. All signs point to this happening. Sony will sell the 60 gig system along side the 80 gig bundle until all the 60 gigs are gone. It should last 2-4 months. They will then remove Motorstorm and drop the 80 gig to $499. What are the signs?
1. The 80 gig motorstorm bundle is labeled "limited edition" which means it wont be around forever.
2. Sony refuses to talk about any plans after all the 60 gigs are gone. IOW they want people to buy the 80 gig bundle now and not wait until all the 60 gigs are gone so they can get the 80 gig for $499.
3. Sony saves $27 per unit by removing the EE chipset from the 60 gig. The cost difference between a 60 gig harddrive and an 80 gig harddrive is probably $5 to $10. So the 80 gig is costing them less to produce then the 60 gig. Why would they charge more for it?
I can't promise anything but I'd be willing to bet a good chunk of money that this is their plan.
The point is that yes you can buy now for $499 but for how long? We need to have a permanent price drop to assist future PS3 onwers so that game developers have more of an incentive to make games for a particular console. If I own a 360 already what's my reason to buy a PS3 if the same game is coming out for both systems? So far the 360 can go toe to toe tech wise with the PS3. Please don't mention blu-ray because believe or not some people whata videogame player and care less about watching movies. A game developergives a rat's a$$ if your using your PS3 to watch movies. It will hurt sony in the long run if 50% of the people buying PS3's are only watching movies. How will gaming studios recoup production cost if movie watchers are not buying games? I have a feeling that this Blu-ray drive will hurt the PS3 as a gaming machine.
And is it Sony's plan to keep a $600 price point? After seeing interviews with game developers during E3 they want a price battle between sony and microsoft to move and motivate the gaming industry. In two years will we see a 120gig harddrive and 3 bundled games still at $600? I bet that alot of people would have liked a $399 20gig PS3 at this point.
$499 for 60GB while stocks last. Its like a sale. Sony can also tell if there is any underlying demand in the market for the PS3 which looks like there is.
I think 80gb will be $499 by Nov to compete for the xmas holiday period.

why not upgrading your hdd ?
i got 160gb so i care less about the 80gb version + i got a 500 gb external hdd hooked on my ps3 for movies music if i feel like watching a movie ill just pop it in and bam the 160gb inside the ps3 ill use that for the games etc
you wont see me complain about space for the next 10 years im set bring it on
does any1 think that it couldb a marketing gimmick from sony.....do u think it could b a trick to get people to buy a ps3 fearing retailers will run out of it ...and fearing that they will have to pay 100 extra to buy 1...thus ensuring rapid sales ...thus also gaining confidence of 3rd partydevelopers ????
it could b possible

Your answer right here:
yes, the 3 rings of death is bad but you must understand why it happens. It is a bad design when the system gets so hot the solder heats up and when it cools down you have a poor electrical connection. To counter this I have bought 2 coolers; one for the back and one when the unit stands up. It sucks but microsoft "is" taking care of their customers by extending the warranty to 3 years for this design issue. Sure they ate billions but microsoft is much bigger than Sony and can aford to take such a hit. The only way to fix this is with proper cooling. It may be badbut my 360 still works and the games rock. When I get a PS3 or any future console I will add external cooling.
