Is it possible that developers are exaggerating or fabricating difficulties with ps3, so they don't push graphics and innovativesness pass what they have already done for the 360. I know that ps3 has not reached its limits and I believe lazy multiplatfrom developers have no intention of pushing it to its limits.

What do you guys think?

........... sorry if this topic has already posted

I believe the systems are fairly equal, but the ps3 i think has a higher cieling. As of right now, whats gimping us the most is lazy devs making the game on the 360 and lazily porting to the ps3. But i will say one thing, ps3 exclusives look better, alot better, then 360 exclusives (Except gears of war)

The hardware in the PS3 is more limiting than that in the 360. I just don't see how people still argue that. Less memory to deal with, and a weaker GPU makes the PS3 hurt a little. Yea yea yea, cell this cell that....its not as efficient as everybody would like to claim. Either way they are both great powerful systems.

Like carneyfolk said, look at ps3 exclusives compared to what else is coming out there (MGS4). And I am making an assumption that 360 and ps3 development began around the same time and the release date is not compromised b/c of ps3 dev.

Why isn't more time needed for dev of a game on the ps3?

Actually, the cell is indeed as good as people claim, since it doesn't necessarily give more GPU than 360, it has more FLoPS, which has a lot to do with graphics and AI. They say that the cell processor has the ability to give off twice as many FLoPS than 360, but nobody has been able to reach that potential yet. GameInformer didn't say it was powerful enough to shoot holes in the moon for no reason.

But as far as I think, the PS3's ceiling will not be reached until Blu-Ray discs can carry more than 50 GB of information.

Why do people keep asking this question? Last generation GC and Xbox had more advanced hardware, but all the multiplats look the same on all 3. It basically goes like this. The 360 is the more popular system so developers are going to choose that version over the ps3. Also since most games are multiplatform, they have to make the game equal on both systems which means they need to use power that both systems can do. They are not going to make the PS3 version better by any means because it would cost more money for the less popular system. That is what happens sometimes. Other than CG N64 had actual 3d movement in gameplay and graphics way before ps1 did, but when ps1 is cheaper and more popular what are they going to do.?

The fact of the matter is Sony screwed up by coming out with their development kits too late and lost some things. Developers aren't going to wait and are going to go with a system that is up and running and so on. The only thing different between ps3 and 360 in terms of exclusives are the graphics. I say most games have good enough graphics, focus more on making the game fun to play. Look at Lair, I actually enjoyed the game, but the graphics are the best part of that, but yet it still failed, why because each level was the same and the controls were fair but kind of slow.

The 360 isn't holding the PS3 back. If anything were holding the PS3 back it would be developers. I wonder what System Wars would think of this topic?

Sony's sluggishness in managing to secure exclusive deals for games like GTA IV and Assassins Creed is what is holding the console back imo.

Blu-ray has nothing to do with PS3 performance at all. The fact that we have hard drive installs is just compensation for the fact that blu-ray drives cannot read discs as fast as DVD drives at the moment. The cell chip is in fact vastly superior to the one in the 360. The problem is that no developers no how to properly code for the damn thing. PC developers are just now figuring out how to properly multi-thread on 2-4 core cpus let alone for the cell. Other than the CPU, the 360 and PS3 are virtually identical. Same amount of RAM with 256 system and 256 GPU...though it is shared, which means both systems can dedicate more ram to some tasks as necessary. Both GPUs are about equal, althought one is ATI and the other is Nvidia. They are both engineered from last generation DX9 GPUs.

Long story short, the 360 is not holding back the PS3. The PS3 is holding back the PS3. The 360 is based off of good old PC x86 tech and uses directx codecs while the PS3 has a proprietary cpu and brand new developer tools. In the short, this means that developers already have years of experience to look on for 360 development, as its pretty much just a pc in a box, whereas the PS3 requires and entire new skillset. The good news for PS3 is that as developers learn better techniques for coding for the cell chip, the PS3 should get better and better games, whereas the 360 will top out rather quickly. The bad news is that by the time the developers learn said skills, they will be applying them to PS4 games. The PS3 is a great system, but its window to shine is passing. Whatever negative things people might say about the 360, Sony is not going to knock it aside the generation. Sony and Microsoft are going to share the spotlight...but its gonna be very interesting to see how the PS4 and Xbox * will shape up.

Thats where I was trying to get at, I do not mean to blame the system itself.
