Ok, so while playing Bad Company 2 my PS3 just shuts off. When I turn it back on the green light turns yellow then to red and flashes continuously. I heard that YLOD can be caused my hardware failure so, is my hard-drive screwed? Also, Bad Company 2 is stuck inside of the system... Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

Your not screwed you can fix it yourself get all your information backed up and get your game out. If you send it too sony first then you will indeed lose all your data. What you will need is a precision screw driver set, philips head screw drivers, a torx head screwdriver, thermal paste (artic silver), something like a flipsy card or spreader to spread the paste evenly, and a heatgun. Go to youtube and look up gilsky ps3 ylod fix. He will walk you through how to fix your ps3 and it will give you if done right about two more months of play or longer until it goes out again its a temp fix. But this will allow you to back up your data and get your game out. So right now your in a situation where this maybe your only option. I did it twice on my system already backed up my data and now im good to go bout to purchase a slim model. But be warned all your information and saved files may not carry over to your slim since some game save files are married to the system which is stupid if you ask me. Try it out before you send it too sony very easy to do.

If you do that Sony will not touch the system, they will just send it right back to you since it's tampered with. Don't do this if you intend to send it in to Sony and especially if it's still under warranty.

Listen to this guy. If you send it into Sony you have to pay $150 for a refurb and don't get your data back. My friend and numerous people online have told that the refurbs just break in about 6-12 months. Your best off fixing it yourself and retrieving your data and buying a brand new slim.

Yea mine broke quite a few months back. Around the time Lost Planet 2 came out. Cant quite remember the date though.

I just fixed it myself with the help of the youtube video where the guy shows you how to fix it. It works fine now and i havnt had any problems with it so far.

That is not YLOD but rather the blinking red lights of death, same thing happened to my console as well. Look up on RLOD online, there are numerous fixes.

I heard good things about Gophermods, you can always send to them if you don't wanna lose your data, cause Sony will just send a refurbished model and your data will be gone, of course they'll give you disc back though.

My 60GB got the YLOD Feb/09, a year and a half later my refurbished model still running like new, but I'm thinking on getting a slim for backup.

If it's under warranty send it to Sony however you will lose all your data. If you want to save your data you can follow the DIY guides or it's easy to find a local shop who will probably charge you anywhere from 50 to 90 bucks to fix it. However it's only temporary. I've had my 80gig fat ylod twice on me so after the second one I just went out and bought a slim and transfered my data to it. My advice, if you have the money just get a slim and avoid the hassle and worries.

Sirjackalot made a great post, but there's a step you can take to ensure that you keep EVERYTHING including saves from your hard drive. 1. First, do the PS3 fix (which is temporary). 2. Next, buy a new PS3 (assuming that's what you're eventually going to do) 3. Use the Full Transfer Utility in the PS3 to transfer everything from your old to new PS3 (ensure wireless functions are off before doing so) 4. Kick your old PS3 into a river, keep your new one with everything inside. And yes, the Full Transfer Utility transfers copyright protected saves as well - those pesky ones you can't back up in any other way. I did the above method myself, and now I'm playing my PS3 like nothing ever happened.
