My 60 GB PS3 got the YLoD a couple of hours ago, I let it cool down and tried it again a few minutes ago and it still won't work. I don't think I have what it takes to fix it myself(I watched videos of it on youtube) and I had for just over 2 years, so the warranty is shot most likely. I hear it can be sent to Sony for repairs for $150, but how long will it take?

you are almost better off getting the slim and see if you can get anything at all for it (store credit) Sorry that happened... but with the way electronics are these days, 2-3 years and they can easily bite the dust... even if you take care of them.

I can wait 3 weeks no problem(cuz of certain circumstances) and I don't mind paying $150 that much. but I still got a PS2 disc inside. Has anyone sent their ps3 for repares b4?

I think you have to tell them theres a disc, and to send it back to you. Or you can try the method to get it out - not 100% sure how it is, but it does a fan test and ejects the disc. Try searching google.

High. The 60 GIG has the highest failure rate. The 40GIG and 80GIG has rare failure rates.

Is there any truth to this? If there is, I bought the 40GB right before the 80's were released.. pissed me off a bit, cause mine is so wimpy.. but it plays really smooth, and I have no issues.

What do you guys think about the switch in the back?? Keep it on with the red light or should you turn it off completly once in a while?

Christ, another one? You might as well buy a Slim to replace it unless BC is a big deal to you.

That's the problem, suddenly cases of YLOD are just cropping up from everywhere. A matter of months ago it was unheard of and now the 60gb models are dropping like flies. How far will it go?

Apparently pretty high. You can add mine to the percentile too.

Well it was because the air was so hot and damp in my house and the air conditioner wasn't working. I was playing it for a few hours and after awhile the ps3 started getting really loud, almost like a X360, I decided to shut it off, a few hours later at night I turned it back on and played the ninja gaiden sigma 2 demo for less than 5 minutes and it freezed and shut off by itself to where only the red light was on, I treid turning it back on but the light flashed yellow and went back to red. It sounds like people here have had that problem, what did you all do? BC is a big deal for me cuz I got no PS2 and I'm not getting non-BC PS3. I'll get it fixed. I know it cost around $150+ but when does sony charge you, before or after the repair? I'd call and ask them myself but I'm expecting a call.

My 60GB went YLOD like 5 months ago too but I never send it for repairs to Sony because for Puerto Rico they charge $250 instead of the $150 for the US so I waited a little and bought a PS3 slim...

I know my comment doesn't helps much but what else can I say? You either pay the $150 to Sony to then get the YLOD later on again, buy a PS3 slim or jump ship.

I see what you're saying, but I'm not getting off the PS3 ship, I'll cut my loses and pay for repaires.

call sony ,they will charge the 150 up front to a credit card..then ship you a box by ups to mail back your ps3...inside the box is a questionaire you fill out telling everything wrong, disc or no disc...if you dont specify to keep the existing ps3 they will send you a refurbished one ,looks brand new.. about 5 day turnaround total...if you need to keep the hard drive or the same exact model i think it may take 2 or 3 weeks,i had to send a unit in for repair for a friend and had it back in 1 week, new refurbished model, just like store bought.and people say once you get it repaired they havent had problems since.the people i talk to at sony were really nice on the phone also.good luck

I have a 60gb :?

Had it since launch. Hopefully it will last like my psx. Can't say about my ps2s since I went through 4 of them.

Honestly I don't know what I would do if I got ylod. I don't want to shell out $150 to get it repaired or buy another ps3.

Almost forgot Craigy nice PSN icon. You have good taste lol.
