You got to ask yourself.... spend money putting a temp. bandaid on your PS3.. or cut your losses.

You may be able to pull the HDD and put it in a External HDD case and pull the data? I was gonna do that when my 160gb got the red screen of death but never got around to it and used the HDD for my b/c 80gb console.

The guys that repaired mine took out the game disc. They repaired it for half the cost compared to Sony. Worked just fine after that. I didn't do anything myself though so I can't tell you how to get the disc out.

If you don't want to waste your time or money fixing it. Then to get your disc out just plug it in and hold the eject button, the fans will go real loud and the disc will eject.

However if you want to fix it then you can use the guide here. I followed it and repaired my 40GB PS3 FAT. Altough this is by no means a permenant fix, just gives you time to transfer saves and stuff. Should last less then 3 months tops.

I got it running for a week or two, and used an external Hard Drive and moved all my stuff on to it. You'll probably have to partition a bit of it for the FAT 32 file system

Well, since it's no longer under warranty just open it up and take the game out yourself. I had to to get Mirror's Edge out of my old system. It's really not hard as long as you have the proper tools.

You're screwed, sadly. Say goodbye to about $150 and all your data. Same thing happened to me a while back. It really stung. Just buck up and call Sony and they will ship you a coffin (and ask for $$$.) But what else can you do?

I used the method you're about to use a few times, mainly to get the disc out and back-up my data. You've got a Slim already so that's ok,and you can back-up any data you need to that instead. To let you know(so you know you're not wasting time:P) the method does work, but only to an extent:)

But what else can you do? donalbane
If you read the OP you'll find what he's trying to do and possible solutions:P
