yea I have read some cases of this so called Zombie PS3 caused by YLOD on the Official PS3 forum where PS3 appeared to die by YLOD only coming back alive to a functional state sometimes after YLOD.

Your PS3 is starting to show YLOD signs. If I were you I would back up the HDD ASAP.

Yeah, I would invest in a slim and start moving files. You're lucky that you've been given the chance to do so. I pray that my 60GB never dies on me, but if the time comes, I hope I'll have a chance to get a new PS3 ASAP and start a data transfer. I don't trust Sony to "repair" my PS3 when all they'll do is replace it with a refurbished model.

Should back-up your save files... Once the PS3 gets YLoD usually you will not be able to get back in to retrieve your old files (unlike TC) and if you send it into Sony for repair, they always wipe the harddrive. So... once the PS3 is dead its dead... u wont be able to get the files back cuz PS3 harddrives are formatted differently from regular harddrives and therefore will not be recognized. Putting ur HDD into a friend's PS3 is also not recommended as their PS3 will want to wipe your harddrive right away. My 60gb died a couple weeks ago and i desperately tried to get my files with the above methods, but in the end there was no way of getting it back... =(

I'd be completely happy to back up my HDD once in a while, but the problem is when I might have to restore them on a PS3 that is different than the one I was using. The restore utility does not restore copyright protected files such as Demon's Souls, Resident Evil 5, etc. Therefore, the only option I have to make a clean data transfer is to have both the dying PS3 and the new PS3 alive to take advantage of the memory-transferring utility that has been recently implemented via optional firmware update. That's why I need to know that my PS3 is dying to back it up - there's no other choice if I want to keep all of my data than buying another PS3 and using that as a backup HDD, and I sure as hell ain't spending 300 dollars just to back up my saves which MIGHT require restoration. Yeah, the chances of me knowing about my PS3's doom before it actually dies is slim to none, but that's the only affordable thing I can rely on to save all of my save files.

I hope my 60 GB ps3 never dies also but not because of losing my data but im still skeptical of buying a ps3 slim cause i love my original ps3 so much and its big:)

although i am not 100% certain, it sounds like that it could be an overheating problem, do you clean the vents on your ps3 or are they somehow blocked???

I restored my PS3 via XHD and my demons souls save data was restored as well.
