My original 60 Gb model finally gave out. The real problem with that is..

1) I have a Blu-ray stuck in the drive, and it won't come on long enough for me to get it out.

and 2) I never saved my game files to my thumb drive (like I kept saying that I would).

I tried to put my HDD (hard disk drive) in another PS3 to try and back it up, but that one just said that I should format my drive. It's not under warranty, so I doubt that Sony should just switch it for another system (I like being able to play PS2 games like Kingdom Hearts on it), but you never know. Who else has had this problem recently? Should I take it to Best Buy, or some other place to have it repaired?

I assume that your ps3 is not under warranty so I would suggest trying to fix it on your own by looking at YLOD fix on youtube. Its really easy to do and it only requires a few tools to use.

I would just send it in. If you crack the case and do any repairs yourself, sony wont fix itI recently found out. At least you won't qualify for a trade in on a refurbished slim of fatty. They told me if the technician sees it was taken apart, they put it back in the box and send it back to you.

Also i should note I had a launch 60 that was way beyond warranty and still would've qualified for the trade in or repair deal. Unfortunately I took mine apart last year and replaced the thermal compound.

You're better off buying a new PS3.
