Poll You think PS4 Pro will failed (51 votes)

Yes 41%
No 57%

So what do you think, many PS4 owner won;t buy the PS4 Pro but will stick with there old one and wait for Scorpio next year. But we know the current old model won't be in store but it the people who want to get a new PS4 but have those two different ones to chose from. Sony was doing good but after yesterday meeting it looks like they are falling apart. Could PS4 Pro and PlayStation VR failed big time could be doom for Sony. PS Vita was a failed, the same with Move, and almost PS3 but I hope not.

I don't think so. For $399 is a very good price point.

Be patient. Look how dead this place is. I have a PS4, not getting the Pro. I'm thinking of upgrading my pc and sticking with my PS4.

Given how good Uncharted 4 looked on a 1.8TF PS4 Original, I can't even imagine how good The Last of Us 2 on a 4.2TF machine will look...

I think the Internet has the wrong idea about PS4 Pro. Everyone keeps comparing it to Xbox Scorpio and One S, but the truth of the matter is that everyone new about this system upgrade long before representatives at Xbox said anything about newer models for Xbox One. Phil Spencer said that the Xbox One would not have system upgrades, yet the new Xbox was shown off before the PS4 Pro. The system is for marketing purposes. It is for people who want to a purchase a PS4, but have not done so. This particular model is not for those who already have the original system. This new model is also to appease people who were complaining about the resolution of games that were released back in 2014.

There is very little reason to upgrade at the moment as the only gameplay differences look merely cosmetic but I would reckon anyone still to upgrade to PS4 will choose the Pro unless they are on a budget.

Also if I need to replace my PS4 which can happen I would replace it with a Pro.

Would need a better reason to upgrade than 4k graphics as the games are pretty enough.

I doubt it will fail, it has a pretty behemoth corporation pushing it and they'll turn on their hype machine and trick all sorts of people in to buying it needlessly. The only question I really have is will it be worth the buy?

Right now my PS4 is simply a dedicated Netflix/Youtube streamer. I haven't played any games on it in months. How would this thing end up any different?

I think it will do well. I think a good amount of new users will buy it over the Slim and a decent chunk of people will trade or sell their current PS4's and upgrade to the Pro. Of course, it is hard to say how much the general crowd will care about the extra power when they can save $100 when buying the Slim. Either way, I see a healthy amount of sales in the PS4's future, no matter which console people will flock to more.

It's gonna do well. I think the majority of gamers nowadays could care less about the Blu Ray thing, I mean yeah sure is kinda inconvenient that ppl may have to go buy themselves a Blu Ray Player, but I mean for $399, you cant beat that price. Sony will snag some more exclusive deals on AAA games and Pro will be at the top right along with Scorpio. Sony aaint going nowhere, hate it for all the PS haters!!!!

Its been all negative so far and for good reason. May not fail but might just struggle harder than PS3s.

Depends on your definition of failure?

For anyone who already owns a PS4? The upgrade is laughable. With no sizeable difference to the games shown.

At best you get a minor improvement for games that the developers patched to work for the Pro. And we could only see the difference when they zoomed in, on a non playable editor mode (Spiderman PS4).

A lot of people that think the games will have double the frame-rate need re-think how this console works, those guys have no proof it comes to this, the extra power is to have upscaled 4K or HDR resolution.

If you haven't got a PS4.. It might be worth looking into. As it 'should' improve loading times and other things the regular PS4 struggles with at times. But this will be very bare from what they've told us as the hardware is locked for improved resolution.

To be honest it's already an annoying conversation (the Pro), because no gamer here has really had a hands-on with it. But everything we've been given is hinting the Pro is for VR and 4K.

Otherwise it's bragging rights for smug Jackasses.

If it doesn't run my games better_ It's not really a better system/

I think it will do fairly well, but it depends on a few variables. The price was a big variable and Sony hit the sweet spot at 399.99. I don't see many people upgrading unless they have a 4ktv. I can see places like Gamestop offering deals to trade in your PS4 towards a pro to entice people with a 4ktv that wants to better utilize their tv/console symbiosis.

Another big variable is the success of the Sony VR. If it's a sizable difference playing on the pro, I can see people buying/upgrading to get the most out of the VR experience.

I don't feel that way. I've streamed 4K PS4 Pro gameplay on my 4K HDR TV and it looks significantly better. PS4 games are upscaled by my 4K TV from 1080p to 4K anyways so why not have it render at a much larger native resolution; whether that's 1440p, 1800p or native 4K.

Games won't magically double in frame rate but PS4 Pro patches do improve the games when viewed on a 1080p TV as well.

  • Tomb Raider bumps the frame rate to 30-60 fps in 1080p
  • Shadow of Mordor implements super sampling, which renders the game at a higher frame rate and then downsamples to 1080p.
  • The Witness is bumping the native resolution from 900p to 1080p and increasing AA from 2x to 4x
  • Paragon is enhancing graphical fidelity like textures etc.

The PS4 Pro isn't just about 4K. It's about making current gen games much better. Game developers are going to target the Xbox One and PS4 for a while because they can't afford the "turnover" that a standard generation causes. PS4 Pro and Scorpio are just going to be running much better versions of said games. Sorta like how you can play the same games on PC vs PS4 but at higher settings.

@Nonstop-Madness: Last years Tomb Raiders "Target" on PS4 is 60FPS. "target". Just like Bloodbornes "target" was stable 30FPS and at times is under 10FPS.

If they can make that somehow work? That's good. No argument. But from my understanding it's not as simple as thinking Pro as a High end P.C. Because it's not. Tomb Raider is at this moment a rare exception at anycase, in that the developers are putting in the extra effort for framerate. Though this may also be a compromise and nerf the textures, (which I don't mind, in fact wish more developers would on consoles.)

With that stated; my set-up here supports 4K, so if you can tag your stream? I'll gladly have a look at this difference, because from the videos I've looked around and viewed, it's upscaled 4K not native. Quite a difference. And wasn't all that impressed.

And only Spiderman showed a substantial difference, and that was a tech demo that may not reflect the final product. It's not the first time Insomniac Games have shown gameplay that toned down for the finished game. The rest I just didn't see a big difference (Shadow, Witness, Horizon, Mass Effect) You name it, it didn't seem that big a difference to get all happy about.

If you read my whole comment though, you'd know, that I know, that 4K isn't the only thing in Pro. However, it is the only real sell over a regular model.

You're believing blind promises for the most part, in that Pro will be worth it without a 4K or VR set-up.

And that's your choice to make. But believing it's up towards a decent P.C.s standards. . . I can't take seriously.

Coolyfett doesnt think the PS4 Pro and Scorpio will do well with the masses. Only Techspec fanboys will support it. The average consumer that still uses an HDTV will have no interest in these upgraded versions of the Gen 8 systems. When Nintendo releases their 2nd Gen 8 console many gamers will probably move into that direction. The PS4 Pro wont outsell the basic PS4 and Scorpio will not outsell the Xbox One. You guys are setting yourself up for heartbreak. Really man.

I don't think the PS4 Pro or the XBox One S are going to do that great in sales. I don't feel like 4K is even that big yet, and paying $400+ isn't really justified if you already have the original PS4 (also if you don't have a 4K, be ready to shell out a couple grand). I will NEVER get a PS4 Pro, not just because I think 4K is dumb, but I personally think its a terrible decision not to include 4K blu-ray support. I use my PS4 for 3 things: for gaming, for streaming movies/shows through apps like hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and HBO Go, and I use it to watch blu-ray movies. I have a pretty decent size blu-ray collection that I have been building or the last few years with the hopes of "one day" upgrading them if the resolution ever got better, but also affordable. Since that will probably never happen with the PS4 lineup, that means I will never upgrade.

I think 4K is very gimmicky because there is absolutely nothing wrong with gaming at 1080p (for me ideal gaming with the right amount for FPS is between 1080p-1440p). Sure 4K looks good, but it really isn't practical...

@Mighty-Lu-Bu: Apperantly you don't own a 4K tv. Watching content on 4K compared to 1080p is night and day. Gaming is night and day also. As far as the Ps4 Pro goes I think it'll do well with pep who have a 4K tv or are upgrading. I have a nice 4K Sony tv and I saw the games in 4K compared to how they look now and it's def a nice jump. You def have to own a 4K tv to appreciate what the games look like on the ps4 Pro....

Apparently you don't even know what 4k is, enjoy playing pong at 4k 60 fps...

Oh wait, the PS4 Pro cant even do 4k, LOL. Its 1440p UPSCALED to 4k.

@redskins4045: You will be able to watch content in 4k... ok, but that is about it. Paying an extra $400 to watch "some" content in 4k is not worth it. Let's also not forget that a majority of games will not be in 4K- the main reasoning behind that is that even though the PS4 Pro is more powerful than the PS4, it isn't powerful enough to truly game in 4K. I guess you missed the article when Gamespot built a gaming rig based on the specs of the PS4 Pro...

If the PRO version wasn't coming out i would say it'll be a success, (like every slim model that came out last generations).

the fact the the pro is out, i think you have to be really dumb to buy the slim and not the pro.

and i'm aware to the price differences, and yet, the pro is a better buy.

Don't think of it that way, imagine the holidays;

Parents - oh look PS4 Pro for $$$, we'll buy that. No No No, this PS4 is a Slim one and its CHEAPER, we'll save $$$ on this instead, and its still a PS4 so its all the same.

That's another point of view, totally agreed.

but i'm speaking about me as a person who decide what to buy for himself. and for the long period of time, i think the PRO will be a smarter buy...i think this console will boost the development of 4K TV's purchases and will make their prices more accessible.

buying a PS4 slim is just to buy 3 years old console in a new stapled shape without any change under the engine hood, simply a waste...

@nirogol: The technology impaired wont know that;

Salesman - Connects PS4S to 4k TV and it "displays in 4k" (The TV is upscaling), then he/she connects PS4P to 4k TV and it still "displays in 4k" (The console is upscaling).

The customer thinks its the same thing and buys the cheaper product.

As a salesman...maybe the sales commission make him convince the costumer to buy the more expensive product?

anyway that's not the point, this won't make the PS4 slim a success or a failure...people wants to buy the premium, the stronger, the better, that natural, and in that case, it's legitimate as well.

better search for a 2nd hand regular ps4 than buying a new PS4 slim, if i were sony's management member i would insists to not realese this product at all.

hi I wonder if the psfour slim can correct the disc reading errors psfours got? Its not simply with Grand Kingdom; even though Grand Kingdom is widely referred to by the na-me of a video game with a crazy warped disc; and Grand Kingdom is fine with the digital download service; its the dvds I put in psfour which get significantly scratched and only on the underside . Im guessing that the psfour will be worse off if its slim . I have no idea if thats true . It can be a hardware error .
