You think Sony allow you to trade-in non-rumble obsolete controllers...

For rumble controllers? That is if it happens. Id think it would make alot of PS3 gamers upset if they are like me and bought 2 or more SIXAXIS controllers already. Even if they made you trade them in if you included the controller and maybe $5 or $10 id do it. Thoughts?

I don't think they should let you trade them in. I just can't envision any reason why they should. You couldn't trade in the original Playstation controllers for the Dual Shock versions. You couldn't send in your XBox Yacht controllers in to get one of the new, smaller and better ones. When the DS Lite was released, people didn't send in their old DS systems to get a Lite. There's no precedent set for it, and really, I don't think there should be. Not to mention the fact that it'd be an enormous hassle for Sony.

Didn't Nintendo have some sort of exchange setup where you could return your vanilla DS for a reduction in price of the DS Lite?

Also, the ps3 is far more expensive an investment than previous iterations of the console.  Spending even more money on an already very expensive purchase would definetely annoy many fans.  Back in the playstation 1 days, it was fairly cheap to buy the console, so buying new controllers wasn't a big deal.

Yeah I would be pissed only because of the fact that they said its not possible with the motion sensing.  I say leave it out and not piss alot of people.  Let 3rd party do it, so the salt will be sprinkle on the wound and poured.  But yeah they should have a trade in policy but I doubt it.  If it doesnt catch fire or anything like that then why replace it for free.

Did they replace the original PS1 controllers when they came out with the rumble controllers with analog sticks? No, so they wont. I have 3 sixaxis controllers and I am not upset that Sony is bringing rumble back. I dont mind buying 2 or 3 new controllers and having some back-ups when one breaks.

I was actually making an assumption. :P I stand by my other claims, but you could be correct on that one. Research time!

No, the stores would most likely only give you the non-rumble ones.

I doubt you'll be able to directly through Sony, though you can gather store credit through Gamestop and cop out a little more, which sucks, but that's the way things might end up.

Its not like if the controller has some kind of malfunction .

Just buy a rumble for yourself and let your friends use the non-rumble.  If they complain tell them to buy their own.  Problems solved.

I have found absolutely no credence to Nintendo doing any offers regarding trade-ins of the original DS for the DS Lite. I've found evidence of stores doing trade-in values and such (of course) but nothing on Nintendo. Because, again, it'd be a huge hassle for the company. Especially when they can just save all that money and make more by merely charging you for purchasing a new controller. :P Them's the breaks!

It was all marketing. Everyone heard about Immersion's lawsuit so Sony did the wisest thing available. They pretended like they would never ever reincorporate rumble into their controls knowing full well people would still buy the PS3 and possibly buy additional controllers. Then after all the additional controllers started selling, they'd be making enough money to pay off Immersion and go into works for a dualshock sixaxis thus making anyone with 2 controls go out and buy a 3rd. More profit. They basically payed off Immersion at the expense of the consumers and are still in line to make further profits when the new controller releases.

I never bought my 2nd control because I just knew they'd come out w/ a rumble sixaxis shortly after launch. It was easy to see after what happened w/ the original PS1 controller converting to the analog controllers. By a certain point you actually needed them.

It depends. I think if any other console maker (no names mentioned) allows you to trade in your old console when they release a new one ... lets just say for arguments sake with HDMI and a bigger hard drive ... then Sony have NO excuse not to offer a trade in for non-rumble controllers. Although didn't Sony say there will be plans made when the batteries start to die away and concessions will be made? So I see no reason why they wouldn't to the same for controllers with rumble (IMO they should) However if neither allow trade in's then it's fine cause I'd rather have to shell out on a new controller than shell out of an entirely new console (though what's the bet Sony will be crucified by certain sites for their "controller betrayal" while the release of an upgraded console will be applauded as "listening to the fans" and "progressing the system")

right or wrong, legally Sony doesnt have to if you bought extra contollers

at the very least, offer to replace the one controller that came with the system. Thats it.

if you bought extra contollers, then that was you decision, and Sony isnt obligated to replace those contollers

I think they should do trade ins.Say £5 to £10($10-$15) plus old pad to get a rumble one.I'd be satisfied with that.I am buying to at launch,it's only fair(UK).

Ain't gonna happen, forcing companies to offer trade ins on old things for new things is rediculous. Maybe Nike should offer a trade in on older Nike Air shoes, how about trade in your 5 speed car for a faster 6 speed manual. Give me a break folks, get real nobody owes you anything, no company has ever been obligated to offer trade ins on hardware upgrades ever it's unprecedented and Sony would be a fool to start such a money losing endevour. I hope all you rumble rumble loving ppl sell your non rumble controls on Ebay that way I can pick up a full set of controls for pennies. I'm glad SOny has released a new rumble control, now I can expect a million used rumbleless controls to show up on Ebay and I can pick up a full set for the price of one rumble control.

No they won't.  Think of all the hassle when millions of controllers are flying in from all over the world and they have to ship out new ones to each and every one of them.

first party would have to support rumble before third party could support it, because games would have to support it in-game. not the same has to be said about it being wireless though.

yeah dont think so
however, i dont really care because even if i had one, i would most likely keep the rumble off because it eats up the battery
my 360 and Wii controls also have rumble off to conserve battery
im not a big fan of rumble
