What exactly does "beating a game" mean? Is it doing everything possible and achieving 100% - or is it just beating campaign/story-mode? I want your guys' opinion. As for me? Well, IMO beating story-mode is enough. 100% is for hardcore gamers who want the most out of their games.

Beating the game in story mode is completing a game. Mastering a game on the other hand includes replaying on the hardest difficulty and trophy hunting.

Well "beating the game" to me means finishing the main story mode and not rushing through it. Though "completing the game" means getting 100% on it.

for me its seeing the credits. I rarely if ever complete a modern game 100%. you know finding and doing every thing. there are far to many great games to play and to llittle time for me to spend hours and hours on one game finding every little pointless cain or star or what ever. only receant game i can remember completing 100% is infamous i think and that was only because getting the blast shards made cole more powerfull. But my hats off to those guys who go all out and collect every thing in any game.

"beating a game" = beating the SP and the story has come to an end.

"Completing a game" = 100% completion.

Beating the story. If a game has multiple endings, then getting to see multiple endings.

I used to care about getting "100%" when I was younger. But I just don't care about that anymore. I play for the enjoyment of the experience now. Especially when it's story driven.

Beating the final boss/obstacle/level. I can't be bothered to get 100% in every game I play. If I feel I want to do more after that final whatever, then I'll keep playing it until I've had my fill.

This gen complete = Platinum trophy. Most games I can just complete the story and be totally cool with that, but I don't consider a game complete unless I got that plat. Needless to say I haven't completed very many games.

My definition for it would just to complete the single player. That does not mean getting 100% or seeing all the different endings, just beating the game once on any difficulty setting to me is completing a game.

Completing the single player and / or getting 100% for in game stats depending on the game. Platinum trophies & 1000 / 1000 Achievements don't really mean anything to anyone but the people who're into that.

Beating a game to me is, finishing the game. No matter if you don't get all the Easter-eggs or hidden items. Beat the game and defeat the final foe, I consider that a completed game.

I think it depends on each game. For example, with Gran Turismo I consider completing the game once I get every single car in the game & get at least a Gold in every single race. It's a pain but doable.

For games like God of War, I consider completing the game once I beat it in the hardest difficulty & finished upgrading everything.

For fighting games, getting every single hidden character & open any hidden stages.

Edit: For games like Final Fantasy, getting the ultimate weapons, upgrading everything, completing every single side quest & beating bosses that aren't part of the storyline. Example - Emerald & Ruby Weapon in FFVII.

So on & so forth. I think you get the gist of it.

The game is not the story mode. so when you say "Beating a game" it obviously means 100% complete. Other then that you say " i beat the single player"

Playing through the story mode to the end is what I call completing a game. Getting 100% of the trophies is what's known as getting a platinum.

Yeah, this. Completing a game means when you finish the main storyline and if theres co-op, that too.

Getting the Plat or 100% on a game. If im not going for the plat. Then its finishing the Single Player. I feel Multi-player is just something extra.

To me it's getting to the point at the end of the campaign when the credits roll. If I do get 100% in Trophies, then I Platinum a game, an extra measure of completing a game.

It depends if you really like the game or not. For me, beating gta4's story was enough. But for RDR, I'm going for 100 percent completion.

For me, "beating a game" is taking out the last boss and watching the ending scenes that follow. "Completing a game" is just that; completing everything the game has to offer. It doesn't have to be "collect all of these" or "forge every weapon," but experiencing all the hidden dungeons/bosses. For example, I would consider defeating all of the Weapons in Final Fantasy VII completing the game, I don't have to master every materia and obtain every characters ultimate weapons besides my main three.

Play the story once, beat the game, DONE. Of course I like to get a bit more out of my games so I don't just beat them I rape them :| By that I mean I check every nook and cranny and do pretty much everything there is to do in any given title.
