So there's been speculation regarding the release of new consoles in the next year or so...I for one have no intention of upgrading for at least a couple of years. My backlog is like 12 games long at this point...That said, what are your favorite gaming experiences from this generation? It can be from any game from any console. Over the course of the next few days, I'll be sure to add in some of my favorite moments from this generation. Please try to refrain from spoilers, but I won't hold it against you if you do.

Hmm Fallout 3 GOTY Edition was incredible for me. I can throw the bugs aside and look at the game without them. Just a fantastic experience for me. Spiderman Web of Shadows was great as well. I've beat that game on 360 twice ps3 3 times. Love it. One of those games that I can go to when I have nothing else to play. Gears 3 was great as well. Made me tear up a bit. Theres plenty of more incredible fantastic experiences but I'll keep it short at 3. :]

Metal Gear Solid 4

This game was THE reason I bought a PS3. It is one of the few games that lived up to the hype in that it was an absolute love letter to long time fans such as myself. Act 4 in particular was AMAZING! The controls took everything that was right about MGS gameplay and brought them up-to-date for a new generation. Octo-camo? Way too cool! As usual, the environments, characters, and soundtrack were simply unforgettable! And while the story wasn't quite as good as MGS3, it was still great, and brought about a satisfying conclusion to the story of Solid Snake.

I don't normally replay games. It has to be a special game for me to play more than twice. I happily replayed this game 4 times on the hardest difficulty setting. I took different paths. I carefully watched the ridiculously long cut scenes and noticed new subtle, yet noticable details each and every time. This is a game that just kept on giving back the more I put in. It is without a doubt my favorite gaming experience of this generation.

This is probably the only game I am proud to say that I purchased a Limited Edition, with a Limited Edition Strategy Guide, at Midnight on Release Day. This game reminds me of what I love most about gaming.

Call of Duty 4

Modern Warfare was the PERFECT name for this game. It truly was the birth of the Modern FPS for a generation of gamers.

Let me preface this post by saying that I HATE Call of Duty. Or at the very least, I hate what Call of Duty has become.

That said, this game is absolute masterpiece. It has the BEST single player campaign I have ever played for an FPS. I vividly remember the drunken nights playing this game in the dark, with headphones blasting, while my roommate was asleep. The campaign was so intense that I actually had to take breaks every hour or so because I was worn out from the fire fights!

My college had a firewall that didn't allow us to play online on-campus. Sucks right? I took my PS3 home for Thanksgiving weekend that year and went online for the first time.

Yes, I was de-virginized. I was converted. I was addicted. I was grateful.

For so many people nowadays, Call of Duty = Video Games. That simply depresses me...But truth be told, it took a masterpiece of this calibur to get people to think this way. This game was so far ahead of its time. Everything about it was and still is awesome. It is the only Call of Duty game I still have in my collection. My collection is incomplete without this game.

This generation of gaming, for better or worse, is incomplete without Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Fallout 3

Truth be told, I don't have time to earn Platinum trophies on video games. Most of the time, I just don't care enough to put in the time. Fallout 3 is the exception to this rule. I simply HAD to see what this game would be like being Good, Neutral, and Evil. I simply HAD to explore ALL of the Capital Wasteland. I just HAD TO...do everything.

I don't recall the last time any game had that kind of affect on me. Looking in retrospect, the gameplay in Fallout 3 isn't even that good. The shooting mechanics are mediocre at best. VATS is basically a cop out and offers a hybrid between real-time action and turn based action.

The story isn't even THAT good, and the ending...don't get me started...But the atmosphere is second to none. I had never played a Fallout game before and I found myself so fascinated with the universe that I felt compelled to explore more and more and more.

I completely replayed this game 3 times to earn a Platinum Trophy. Then, after I was done, I wanted to play the DLC so badly that I bought the Xbox 360 version and did it all over again. Granted, I never finished all of the DLC packs...I probably will one day, but the fact that the game engrossed me as much as it did is a testament to its greatness.

The individual parts of this game aren't much, but when taken as a whole, it is one of the best gaming experiences I have ever had. I've done basically EVERYTHING there is to do in the game, and I've enjoyed every little bit of it. Isn't that what constitutes an awesome experience?

Warhawk

If you recall my post about Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, you will recall the fact that my college had a firewall that prevented me from playing online. For whatever reason, Warhawk was the exception to this rule...Thank goodness!

Looking back on things, this was probably a bad thing in that I spent a LOT of time fighting this addicting, team based, online multiplayer war. I spent many hours that I should've spent studying or doing other things, coordinating attack plans with my teammates and dominating teams.

I loved the balance that this game had. I fondly remember capturing nodes while teammates provided support from the air. I remember making sure that every one on my team had a guy with a Rocket Launcher while riding in a tank to defend it. We would coordinate attacks and the other team wouldn't have a clue what hit them. I remember calling out what bases to respawn at. I remember the ridiculous Win-Loss Ratio I had. It was like 45:1. We never lost...I was always one of the highest scorers even though I seldom had the most kills.

Over time, 200 hours or so, I finally got bored, Call of Duty 4 arrived, and my inability to be a death dealer finally caught up to me. No regrets though...Warhawk was the first GREAT online game for the PS3 in my opinion. It marked the birth of a legitimate PlayStation Network in its (then) infant stages.

Dead Space was a huge favorite. Alien is my favorite movie of all time, and that game was like being a character in that movie.

Need For Speed Shift was an absolute blast. Played that game forever. My real introduction to the current generation of racing games, and I was totally addicted.

The first Uncharted game was very memorable as well. The characters of Nate, Elena and Sully were just fantastic, and the adventure I took with them was a load of fun.

Nier was probably the most emotional game I've played this gen. Awesome characters, really fun gampelay, an absolutely unforgettable experience overall.

When you walk out of the City 17 train station in Half Life 2 and when the quasi-thought police chase you through the apartments.

Playing Fallout 3 for the first time.

Omega and the suicide mission in Mass Effect 2.

L.A. Noire on the final homicide case and the vice case that starts out in a boxing ring.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's ending cutscene.

The first hour or two of Assassin's Creed 2.

Oh man, here we go. In no particular order (except for the first one):

- Bioshock

Bioshock is an astoundingly beautiful game. The atmosphere is second to none, and it remains to be one of the most gorgeous looking games of all time. I remember when I first started the game, after the airplane crash when it lets you loose into the water and you're surrounded by flames. The visuals were so unbelievable that I thought I was watching a cutscene until I accidentally hit the analog stick and saw that my character had moved a little bit. My jaw was completely dropped throughout the entire opening sequence of Bioshock, discovering the lighthouse and eventually discovering Rapture. Those moments are uncomparable to anything else in gaming today for me, and it marked the first time I've ever fallen in love with a game in my life. I was spellbinded. Make no mistake: Bioshock has the biggest place in my heart as far as gaming goes.

- GTA IV

I remember when I eagerly sat at my computer throughout the night, waiting and waiting for Gamespot's review of GTA IV to pop up on the homepage after hitting the refresh button time after time. I watched countless previews and gameplay footage just waiting for the moment. I didn't quite have the money to go pick it up at midnight yet, so I was dying to see what kind of reviews the game would get. Finally it happened: I clicked "refresh" and there it was. A perfect 10/10. I couldn't believe it, all the reviews could do nothing but praise the game. When I was able to pick up the game 3 days after release, I immediately realized why the game deserved all the praise. Grand Theft Auto IV features some of the best writing, characters, voice acting, gameplay, and environments in gaming history. The new and improved Liberty City absolutely blew me away, making me feel like a small part of a massive living and breathing city. Driving around the city for the first time was easily a top gaming experience for me this gen.

- Halo 3

Okay, okay we're on the PS3 boards. So what. I couldn't wait a damn SECOND for Halo 3's release when I sat in line outside of gamestop starting at 9 PM. I was freezing my butt off, I lived in Canada at the time. Almost my entire group of friends were getting the game, including many I had back in the states, so I couldn't wait to get home and get online with them and started kicking ass. I finally got home and played my first round with 3 of my friends, and it immediately felt like the good old days of Halo 2 back on the Xbox. It brought us all back together in a weird gaming way. Just pure fun.

- Skyrim

Escaping the flaming ruins of the dragon's attack in the introduction sequence. Supremely epic, it made me realize that I was about to dig into one of the most deep and phenomenal role playing game experiences I've ever known. Since the release, I have put in well over 20 hours of gametime into the game, and I've barely, BARELY scratched the surface of what this massive game has to offer. All of the random factions, from the thieves guild to the dark brotherhood, are complex and intriguing, and I just cannot put the game down. I even bought the strategy guide (which is thicker than some encyclopedias i've seen), and that's something I never really do because I usually like to figure everything out for myself. In this game, I want to make sure I see EVERYTHING. I want to complete every quest and discover all the secrets and meet all the characters. I was instantly hooked.

If you read all of this, then you are awesome and a true gamer and I really appreciate it. These are some of my most engaging moments in not only this generation of gaming, but of all time.

Lots of great games for this generation of consoles.. It's a difficult choice, but my pick is Uncharted.. Great story telling, character development, visuals and combination of 3rd person shooter & platforming. Hands down one of my favorite gaming experiences.

Resistance Fall of Man was my first game, and one of the few FPS that I really enjoyed the single player and the multiplayer. I also love the Sly Collection as it got me into the series (I'd never played the games before). Other things like Resistance 2 co-op, Motorstorm Apocalypse, Tekken 6, Virtua Fighter 5, NBA 2K10, Infamous and other games have given me good memories. And I'm still getting into quite a few games so I should have more on the way. Not as memorable as last gen though.

I also have many great memories on the PSP, don't know if that counts as this gen or last though.

Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 - The perfect blend of First Person Shooter and Role-Playing Game. The first one had an insane amount of Role-Playing depth and character customization. The second was much more easy on the role-playing element, but it seemed to be much more of a challenge because it didn't really allow you to build Shepard into a man-tank where he was impossible to kill on insanity. Plus when you made the Paragon or Renegade choices, it actually felt like Shepard was an extension of yourself. Dragon Age: Origins - I liked this game just because of the storyline. The MMO-style combat really didn't pique my interest, but I really enjoyed the choices in the game, and basically the role-playing element. Call of Duty 4 - Everyone's best for this generation it seems. Hated the online multiplayer, absolutely loved the single player. One of the only games I played on the hardest difficulty just out of fun with no intention of popping cheevos or trophies. Bioshock and Bioshock 2 - Loved the darkness, the weird horror to it, the obscurity to the scenes and the storyline. I loved the multiplayer in BioShock 2. Both great examples of human imagination turned to Art. Battlefield: Bad Company - I sat up damn near every night for a year and a half playing this game into the early morning with my friends online. The cartoonish demeanor of the characters, the fun of the multiplayer, lurking with the knife out for those stealthy kills, or running 3 miles across a map to get a set of tags, and hearing the characters scream in pain as they died or saw a grenade land near them. It was a genuinely fun game, it didn't seem to take itself serious at all, and it had all the great elements to be genuinely fun.

Valkyria Chronicles, I love everything about the gameplay and the graphics are amazing still. Almost cried when I lost Homer in the fight for Ghriolandio but as squad leader I had to press forward.
