"As an example, Ys I's biggest dungeon, the Darm Tower, includes a malevolent hallway that immediately drains away all your health when you step inside its walls. The only way to turn off that instant-death effect is to find a hammer, then go back to a different, unrelated previous portion of the dungeon to locate one particular stone column out of dozens of similar-looking ones and smash a hole into it. What? Exactly. It's the kind of nonsensical disconnect that was totally common over 20 years ago, but in a "modern" product feels very out of place and just confusing." -IGN After seeing that, I knew I don't want this game. And that's only ONE example. Full review: http://psp.ign.com/articles/115/1151272p1.htmlpooyanh
Yeah. I've always wanted to play the series, but stuff like that just frustrates me to no end.

After playing through that part, I can honestly say that the reviewer is a complete idiot.
The hammer is in a chest that you pass by on your way to the evil hallway, and the column that you have to break is among the first few on your way back. I literally found it in under 30 seconds.
I'm been playing through this game and there's nothing nonsensical or disconnect about it. There are things called exploration and puzzles that some games have, and this happens to be one of them. Seriously, the NPCs tell you where to go and what to do, and if you use logic, you'd figure it yourself.
This reviewer is obviously used to games that follow a straight line. Ignore this review if you're thinking of getting this game. It's just another reason why people refer to that site as IGNorance.
I am thinking about getting this. I do have a questions. The hands on demo for this by GS was not good IMO. In the first game do you have to avoid bumping head on and can you bump on an angle? How about the 2nd? also can us use the numb or only the pad?
Thanks

If what worried you about the demo was the bump mechanic, don't worry. You can pretty much bump any way you want to kill the moster. The only reason he was getting damaged easily was because he didn't have any equipment or sword equipped. Once you do get a weapon, it becomes much easier. You can even bump head on and still kill the moster, though that will take a fem more hits and you'll get a little damage too. This game is a really fast-paced action-game. It doesn't make you worry about dying or being precise in the way you bump.
Haven't gotten to the second part yet, but I assume it's the same. You'll love the bump system by then, so again, don't worry.
You can use either the nub or the directional pad. You can actually switch on the fly. You can also adjust the nub so that you can only move 8 directions, which makes moving at an angle easier.
Anyways, if you have more questions, feel free to ask.
