So far this "Epic Visual Novel/Choose Your Own Adventure" game has recieved a 90 from EGM, 88 from GameInformer and a 9.5 from IGN.

I was really thinking this game was gonna be a mixed meta score but so far i'm wrong. Anyone thinking of picking it up because of the high scores?

I will, most likely on the 3DS though. The first one on the DS was amazing, I'm sure this one will be great as well.

It's a sequel to a DS game called "Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors".

Idk, I liked the first one when I had it, but it took too much work to figure out how to complete.

I tried the demo of this new one, but it seemed too far-fetched, much moreso than the first one did.

I mean... There's a big guy in body armor, there's a rabbit doll talking to them, the egyptian chick has even less coverage on her chest but somehow that ring stays in place...

Idk, just seems much more unrealistic, while I felt like the first one maintained a better sense of storytelling.

Thats quite a statement considering you've only played a short demo.

On the PS Blog post for the game, Aksys' Director of Productions was answering just about everyone's questions, and from the sounds of it, you'll appreciate this game more if you're played the previous one.

But just to tell you, I played the demo, and it was about the worst piece of gaming I've played in a long time.

Though the story and characters played a big part, I'm inclined to think that it's the controls that are the real culprit. You'd think touch controls would be better, but the view controls are inverted and oversensitive even using touch.

This is an off topic question but I heard in other forum that this game cost $35 for a Digital copy, [too expensive]
Is it true?

Yeah, I guess I just feel like this game has some bigger shoes to fill and my initial impressions of it don't live up to that of the original game. When I played 999, I felt intrigued. It was like a mystery suspense thriller, and I enjoyed reading along and feeling like my decisions had some impact on things. While the original group was a bit rag-tag, it still seemed feasible to me that the group of people from the original game could have been kidnapped and woke up together in that situation. But then I look at these people and it's like... Okay developers, I know you want to try and top the first one, but by making everyone look really odd you won't accomplish that. It seems to be a thing that Japanese people do a lot in the industry. They try to top the original and they usually end up making things really weird and nonsensical in the sequels. Idk, that's just what I've felt like anyway.

It's an incentive to buy digital. Sony makes a bigger cut, and the costs of distribution is less, so there are a few good reasons why the digital price should be lower.

Good to see it is doing as well as 999. I preordered the game on Amazon a few months ago.

I picked this up two days ago and I LOVE it. I am also somebody who never owned a DS so I never had the chance to play 999, but I just found the script to the first one online and read through it (I figured what the heck, it's supposed to be a visual novel anyway). So from somebody who never played the first game, while you don't have to know the first one to enjoy the second, it definatly adds some twists and questions that I'm looking forward to figuring out by the time I reach the true end of this one.

I've already explained this in my above post. Sony's cut of the money is larger (cut store retailers out of the equation), and the cost of manufacturing a cartridge and case is eliminated.

It's pretty fair, I'd say. If you want a game case to display, you've got to be willing to pay for it. The only thing unfair is the outrageous cost of memory cards.

Are you sure you haven't confused the prices? Retail usually more expensive than digital, and what's special about retail is that you get a physical case and game card. Those cost more.

I got it a few days ago, but I haven't played it yet. I'll get to it eventually. I loved 999, so I'm sure I'll love this one as well.
