The idea that the government is moderating anything is a strawman. Twitter and Facebook and whatever other platform that engages with the government is doing the moderation.
There is no mandate to give the government administrative powers over companies in the private sector to perform moderation.
There is no mandate for any company to engage with the government.
There is no mandate for any company to remove any posts.
This is all at the company's discretion.
We have already seen the government combat misinformation online in the form of suggesting resources that provide evidence based counterpoints to the social media company. These resources are indicated by the social media company's own moderators on posts that the company deems necessary to address.
There is no direct action by the government. There is no mandate for compliance by the government. There is no legal mechanism to implement these things. Such an attempt to create and enforce this type of mandate would quickly fail in the courts.
This is complete fear mongering.
