Today marks the first day of voting in the GA special elections and the final tussle over control of the Senate for this term (barring someone leaving before their term ends).

Both Senate seats are up for grabs.

https://apnews.com/article/georgia-senate-run-off-voting-ca8ae1d3b068e5d984d9a452be1069d1

Who do you think will win? Who do you want to win?

I'd like to see Democratic wins, but Democratic voters tend to show up in lesser numbers during special elections. Early reports cause me to suspect that to remain the case:

"...lines reported to be shorter than in the first days of early voting for the general election last month."

Democrats need those seats in order to get anything done last time I check.

I am not expecting anything good, but I still hope for the best.

I am going to be surprised if Democrats get these seats, they have a problem getting people to show up in special and midterm elections, whereas Republicans treat all elections like it's life or death. But I hope Republican voters are getting high on their own supply and refuse to vote because they think it's all a sham. Anyhow, even if Democrats get both these seats I am sure some of those blue collar dems are going to leverage it to point of dysfunction like they did after Obama was elected.

Doubt the Dems have a chance with this, but I’m hopeful that Trump and the Right’s rhetoric will keep Republicans home in the baseless belief their vote is irrelevant. Nothing would be more poetic.

As a Demi in the state of Atlanta GS, I already did my early voting and I can tell you now, I waited an hour in a half to cast my vote. It looks like the people of GA are now taking this seriously as they did with the Presidential election 2020.

My hope as well. Plus we need to get rid of McConnell.

IIRC for the vote was split between loeffler and collins for the republican party. w/ collins out, i don't see how loeffler doesn't take it. the other race may be much closer.

@comp_atkins: For every one vote Perdue/Loffler got.....Ossoff/Warnok got 50 more, a lot of early voters are coming out hard cause the lines were really long when I went to cast my vote.

republicans got this one. Nobody wants crazy dems and their defund the police BLM movement anywhere near the senate.

Yes this government will be a lameduck one, and thats definitely for the best. Let biden push through his executive actions but as we all know from history, those never turn out good.

riight, nobody believes you crazy leftists. BLM don't even realize defunding the police would do to the innocent black neighborhoods dealing with drugs and gangs. Instead of one pos wife abusing punk getting shot by the police, defunding the police would turn chicago into san juarez over night.

I doubt that since they are under contract. In fact the cop who posts here was getting lots of overtime.

  • Seattle will cut by 18%
  • Milwaukee rejected it's $10M federal grant for police
  • Pittsburg PD will cut $5.3M
  • L.A. will cut $25M from school policing

This is just within the past few weeks. NYPD was cut by 1 billion in the summer. LAPD by 150 million. These are all earmarked for other social services that will do nothing to solve crime.

I'm sure Stevo is loving the overtime

@vl4d_l3nin: Individual cities cutting budgets are not under the purview of Biden. Nor is he in office. Nonetheless, yes some cities cut funding, however there is more to it than defund the police. Covid has cut taxes in many states, and some cities reallocated the money to other programs of which some would replace police presence.

Seattle moves some divisions out of police control and thus the money would go to that department. Milwaukee is still considering the grant and will take it up in January. Pittsburgh is moving 5.3M to a public safety fund for stop the violence programs for prevention and treatment, rather than punishment. Also you spelled Pittsburgh wrong. LA is the board of education after community groups ask for it to be eliminated. Looks like a compromise. It eliminates evening and weekend patrols to stop vandalism. It's also the not police force in LA in general.

Hardly a big deal and not defunding the police at all really if these are your examples. You should really research first. Google is your friend.

Interesting. Decades of declining crime rates and trump increases it. Doesn't say much for his administration does it?

I get why people have conservative beliefs but who in their right mind would support Loeffler and Perdue? Both scumbags profited off the pandemic.

@vl4d_l3nin:

Social workers usually deal with a ton of abuse so... what's the point of the meme? Can't link hard facts but resort to posting memes but trumpettes can't do facts or something? :/

All I'm gonna say is Mitch McConnell is main the reason we are not getting a second stimulus check. He's being a little female dog at the moment. That alone is what makes people want the Dems to win and control it all so they can stick it to that fool. That moron is playing political games out here while people are struggling real bad.

Hence why it's not at all understandable why regular working people support that party. It's not trying to help them. It actually hinders them.

@LJS9502_basic: Glad you can admit that there is at least a divestment of police. That's a start. There is a lot of gaslighting here, and excuse after excuse to what it all means.

You don't just have to look at budgets. There is an unprecedented amount of new gun owners and exodus from cities for those who can afford it. Isn't it weird that when affluent people start leaving the cities and/or arming themselves, police budgets get "reallocated"?

According to democrats:

Black lives matter = Black lives matter

Antifa = Anti-Fascist

Defund the police = ??? (unless you're AOC or Justice Dem)

Allocating funds to have another department take specific tasks is not divesting anyone. It's keep the funds for specific tasks. None of those listed above were defunding police.

I believe both GOP candidates will win. It's a special election which never favors dems or non-incumbents. But I'm hoping that enough morons forgo the vote and think it's rigged.
